The planter in the middle of the cul -d -sac on S Wayward Way needs to be removed. The fire department does not allow anything in the middle of cul -d -sacs that may prevent an engine from turning around. It is also showing a 44.9' radius for the cul -d -sac. It needs to be 48' per the IFC. The grass-crete pavers need to be able to withstand 80,000 lbs of fire engine. Can you provide documentation for the pavers to show they meet the spec? Each axle has 4 wheels on it (2 tandem wheels on each side of the axle). Wheel load = WL= 10,000 Ibs (40,000 Ib axle / 4 wheels) Accurate modeling of an installed Grasspave2 system needs to factor in the impact fraction. As required by most municipalities, the impact fraction necessary to sustain is 30%. Dynamic Force = Fd = 1.3 (30% greater than static force) Standard AASHTO 3.30 Tire Contact Area is 20" x 10"; however, Caltrans (a more stringent design criteria) calls for a tire contact area of 0.01 time P and a length in direction of traffic to width of tire of 1/2.5. Thus, Spread Area = A = 0.01 x 10,000 = 100 sq in (5.65" x 14.14") Ova =WLx Fd /A Ova = 10,000 lbs x 1.3/ 100 sq in Ova= 130 psi 130 psi of pressure exerted is on Grasspave2 under HS -25 loading. We routinely test the strength of the Grasspave2 product to ensure quality and safety. Test data that is a representative sample is provided. Under installed conditions, Grasspave2 can withstand over 500,000 lbs of force over a 31.36 square inch area. Grasspave2 is likely able to withstand more pressure, but the testing machine was maxed out at this load. This is 15,940 psi. THUS, Grasspave2 is capable of support HS -25 loading with a safety factor of 122. This is much greater than that which would be structurally necessary.
