The Design - The fagade and roof line of the new facility varies in pitch and height providing visual interest via a dual split multi-level sloped shed roof system. The shed visually defines the office portion from the warehouse section from the exterior. In addition, the forward facing masonry entry element provides pedestrian wayfinding, visually adjusts the entrance to a more inviting human scale, and marks the entrance as a recognizable point of public access. The rectangular open form of such element also echo's the building owners business of overhead garage doors while providing visual linkage from exterior to interior space. Such elements should always serve to function and should not be added to simply create interest. The building fagade is clad in a variety of colored CMU smooth and split face, full and half block, with both running bond and stack bond coursework. The prefinished metal panels have pronounced shadow lined joint edges. These edges create a series of forms to create a visual rhythm whilst separating the fagade into more visually exciting segments. The combination CMU joints and metal paneling act as a mechanism in which all other exterior building materials align and relate, such as the window mullions alignment. Regulating lines on the front elevations (facing the road) are accentuated by way of the continuation of the horizontal window members, joints, & material change. The materials utilize a combination of metal panels and CMU to create visual rhythm and texture. On the side facing fagades a similar approach is taken using the same metal panels and CMU coursework found at the front fagade. These elevations transition masonry materials into a more traditional metal form. The function of the warehouse will be more utilitarian in nature and so it's appropriate to have the materials be truthful to the surroundings. Natural light throughout building is accomplished by a series of rhythmically spaced punched windows along the front and side facade with a large expanse of glass at the entrance. Mechanical units and STRAIGHTLINE ARCHITECTS 1 4521 S. Cloverdale Road, Ste. 102 i Boise, Idaho 83709 1 P: 208-991-0855 i www.StraightlineArchitects.com equipment will be ground mounted and completely screened. There will be no roof units. Pedestrian Interconnectivity is accomplished by improvement of the perimeter roadway and extension of the sidewalk to the front entrance. Internal to the site, the front concrete sidewalk are configured to create an entry datum. The parking lot has been positioned away from the road. Distinguish field materials from accent materials through pat- tern, texture, or additional detail visible from edge of nearest roadway. Alternate masonry or material courses with relieffrom primary plane may count toward this. Where materials transition or terminate, provide detailing to express the natural appearance of the material_ For example, wrap stone or stone-like products around visible corners to convey the appearance of mass, and not as a thin veneer. Non -durable materials, treatments, and finishes that deteriorate quickly with weather, ultra -violet light, and that are more suscep- tible to wear and tear are prohibited on permanent structures. The use of vinyl and ordinary smooth face block, unfinished, colored, or painted, are prohibited as a field materials for building , 5.1H fa§ades along public roadways, adjacent to public spaces, and j when visible from residential neighborhoods. Smooth face block may be used as an accent material. { i Untextured concrete panels and prefabricated steel panels are ! prohibited as field materials for building fagades, except when 5.11 used with a minimum of two other qualifying field materials and I meeting all other standard fenestration and material requirements. Goal Use colors that complement building materials and support innova- 5.20 ' five and good design practices. Applies to building faades visible from a public street, public spaces, and pedestrian environments. 5.2A Use of subtle, neutral, or natural tones must be integrated with at least one accent or field material. 5.213 Use of intensely saturated colors or fluorescence is prohibited ( as a primary material. May be used as an accent material. Note: For a complete list of all Standards, along with photo examples, see the City of Meridian Architectural Standards Manual.
