Ellen shared that the two images from the old repository that were
selected. MAC planned on three images from old repository, but many
(5) commissioners didn’t participate in sending suggestions from the old
repository. So they only settled on two.

The locations:

said that the boxes that were white mostly were more striking than the
heavily colored ones.
Motion to select Color Cloud Splash and Dandelions for FY17, and In
Good Company and Northern Lights for FY18 by Ellen, seconded by
Stephanie – all ayes – motion carried.
c. Seeking Future Funding (Leslie Mauldin)
Leslie proposed moving quicker with grants- sending out links to Hillary. She
stressed actively looking for funding opportunities. Hillary brought up a
Sponsorship Packet, which would bring larger donations over the entire year.
She stressed that sponsorships are easier to manage than grants. Identify who
we will ask by September, reach out to the businesses by early November.
Recommends meeting face-to-face over coffee with your sponsors. Gina
recommends calling people who have not sponsored previously. The more
personal it is the more likely they are to give. Leslie suggests that MAC members
note who they have spoken with and identified as potential sponsors.
HB asked about what the commissioners want the paperwork to look like. GL
suggested a one page outline with the benefits. G enesis says make it simple,
interesting, brief, if they want more information visit website – optional reading.
Make it simple and make it pretty. Colorful. Ellen suggested making specific ads
with logo examples, etc. Hillary will meet with Gina. Ellen, Taylor, and Genesis
will be resources for email drafts/etc.
MERIDIAN ARTS COMMISSION AGENDA JULY 20, 2017 PAGE 3
d. Public Art Inventory GIS – Publication/Story Map (Hillary Bodnar)
The commission should discuss their preferred means to create some kind of
public resource for public art in Meridian. The map will have one or two pictures,
and the story behind it (why it was chosen, background of artist, etc.) Leslie
suggested that sites that are regular live event sites may also want to be included
in the story map. Stephanie interested in being a part of this development. Hillary
will include her as this develops.
e. 2018 Initial Point Gallery Call to Artists (Bonnie Zahn Griffith)
Hillary walked through the changes to the call- changes to split up the gallery into
quarters. An opening night reception will be made optional. Stephanie noted a
date change – deadline is 2017 (not 2018). A Possibility of expanding the
parameters- North-West artists, Treasure Valley Artists, Idaho Artists was
discussed. They decided to stick to artists who can come in and install the art. It
was brought up that attendees are mostly friends and family of the artists, which
would be difficult for travelling artists. The commission decided on accepting
regional artists. The call to artists will be released August 11 th.
6. Old Business
a. Concerts on Broadway (Mary Jensen or Cara Stone)
Cara gave the commission an update. They had a bigger crowd than the first
concert last year. First medical emergency, person in the back of the plaza – staff
started noticing him not acting well, he ended up having a diabetic episode. Bike
Police were on site at the time. EMT and Fire were called and the man was
worked on for about 45 minutes. Thankful for Police, EMTs and Paramedics got
there within 3 mins of the call. Water wasn’t distributed at this event, but it was
available through food truck. WineGlass will have a tent and be visible for water –
also provide a space for the information table. Have more presence. Bang on the
Wall Burgers did pretty well.
Cara asked for commissioners to come to the concerts.
b. Public Art Mural Campaign (Ellen DeAngelis)
Private site and public site are selected. The Mayor is interested in doing
something at City Hall. The call to artists has been created. Homecourt and
Slycebox were chosen.
c. Meridian Art Week, September 9 – 16, 2017 (Gina Lyon)
MDBA is postponing the art on the street program possibly until next year, but
not this year. However, they will fund the prize for the chalk-art competition. The
Commissioners are asked what events they would like to do for Art Week. Doing
some kind of pop-up art is going on at Deja Brew. Commissioners are asked to
talk to local businesses on how they want to get involved. A budget amendment
was asked of council to provide for Meridian Art Week of $1,172. The money
does include advertising.
Motion to approve not-to-exceed $1,172 for the Meridian Art Week expenses by
Gina, seconded by Gretchen – all ayes – motion carried.
7. Reports, Presentations, Subcommittee Reports, Liaison Reports, Staff Reports
a. Approval of Monthly Financial Report (Hillary Bodnar)
Motion to approve the monthly financial report by Gretchen, seconded by Gina —
all ayes — motion carried.
b. Liaison Reports
(1) Dairy Days Art Show (Stephanie Barnes)
Stephanie recommended advertising sooner. Surveys were handed out -
some people would have rather brought their own, some people were
glad to not have to bring their own. Entertainment was very well
accepted.
(2) Theater & Performing Arts (Gretchen Caserotti)
Honk jr. August 11, 12, Meridian Symphony on Gene Kleiner Day, 8 in

Call for Artists: 2018 INITIAL POINT GALLERY SERIES
OVERVIEW:
The Meridian Arts Commission (MAC) seeks proposals for the display of two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional
artwork as part of the 2018 Initial Point Gallery Series, a series of one to two-month exhibitions in Initial Point Gallery.
MAC aims to have multiple artists in the space each month. Initial Point Gallery is located on the third floor of Meridian
City Hall (33 E. Broadway Avenue, Meridian, Idaho), and is open to the public during City working hours. Initial Point
Gallery provides 100 feet of total wall space for hanging two-dimensional artwork, which is broken into fourths, and
four enclosed display cases for three-dimensional artwork. Approximately 20 pieces fill half of the gallery space. MAC
requests that artists voluntarily donate to MAC 20% of proceeds from sales of art displayed in Initial Point Gallery.
ELIGIBILITY:
All artists are welcome to apply, but artists must meet installation and removal time restrictions. Two-dimensional
works displayed in Initial Point Gallery must be comprised of professional-quality, ready-to-hang, original art. Selectees
must fill all or half of the gallery. Three-dimensional works may be of any medium, but must fit within the four
supplied display cases. No artwork will be displayed which: cannot be safely hung or displayed using the gallery’s
equipment; requires unusual maintenance, handling, or security; or is disruptive or likely to offend the sensibilities of
the general public. Selectees will be asked to enter into an Acceptance Agreement with the City setting forth specific
conditions of display. Selectees and invitees may reapply annually and if selected again, 75% of the display must be
artwork that has not been previously displayed i n Initial Point Gallery. Small, informal groups of 2-4 artists are
encouraged to propose an exhibition including all artists’ work.
PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS:
Artists or organizations wishing to display work in the 2017 Initial Point Gallery Series must provide the following
materials and information to MAC via email in order to be considered for selection.
Completed, signed Application & Acknowledgements form;
250-word informational paragraph about the artist or organization;
Three (3) - Six (6) digital images representational of the works proposed for display; and
$35 gallery maintenance fee, upon acceptance.
Details and forms are available at the City’s website, http://www.meridiancity.org or upon request. Limited
assistance producing digital images may be available upon request.
DEADLINE:
All proposals must be received by MAC by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2018.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection of art for the 2018 Initial Point Gallery Series will be made by MAC. MAC may group more than one artist
in each exhibit to make a cohesive show. MAC will notify selectees by email. In evaluating eligible proposals, the
following factors will be considered:
Adherence to the Call to Artists;
Quality of work;
Appropriateness of subject and concept for a functioning government workplace;
Consistency with City policy and community values; and
Contribution to aesthetic and cultural atmosphere of Meridian City Hall.
RESOURCES PROVIDED UPON SELECTION:
The City of Meridian will provide selected artists/organizations with the following resources:
Limited volunteers to assist artist/organization with installing and removing each piece of artwork;
Track system for hanging 2D art and four enclosed pedestals for 3D art;

of the hooks; any wire constricting this space must be removed. The D rings should be approximately a quarter of the

JULY STAFF REPORT
Thursday, July 20, 2017 3:30 p.m.
City Council Chambers – Meridian City Hall 33 East Broadway Ave., Meridian, Idaho
Subcommittee/Liaison Planning Meetings
Any additional meetings need organized/set up?
Concerts on Broadway
Having WineGlass Arts Development taking the reins for Concerts on Broadway
has helped me be much less stressed
WineGlass has been easy to work with and well organized, they have more to
report on the series than I do, because they have managed so many additional
tasks associated with the series
The first concert went very well, as far as I could tell
o The first concert of the season always seems to have a lower attendance,
but people still got up and danced and had fun
o Bang on the Wall Burgers was back as our food truck. Noe mentioned that
other trucks he works with may be interested in coming out to future
shows as well.
o No sound issues
Next Concert: all new High Street Party Band Saturday, July 29 at 6:30 PM
Meridian Art Week
Meridian Art Week discussions continue.
o I will submit a TUP for the event in late July.
Art on the Street will not take place this year, but the MDBA did determine that
they would like to sponsor the high school chalk art competition ($225 total)
Blues Directors will play in Generations Plaza towards the grass
o I will call and talk with Flatbread and Deja Brew in advance
Chalk Art Competition will take place from a radius around Generation’s Plaza –
with two legs: one towards Flatbread and one down Idaho Ave.
o Hopefully, we can get all of the kids competing in before they hit Pauly’s or
the Smoke Shop so we can be sensitive to placing kids in front of these
establishments in case parents have any issue with that.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, July 24 at 1 PM at Deja Brew.
2/1
Budget Amendments
City Council approved our budget amendment, permitting spending authority for:
o Dairy Days Art Show expenses $2,108
o MDC Traffic Box Wraps $5,000
o Art Week $1,172
This amendment may leave some room for MAC to spend from their ‘Other’ line-
item for FB boosting for concerts, since that was previously discussed.
Dairy Days Art Show
Thank you to all of you who helped support, and attend, this event!
A BIG HUGE AMAZING SHINY THANK YOU to STEPHANIE.
The Dairy Board and City Council both seemed very happy with the turnout of
this event.
Here are some comments from the artists:
o What did you like most about this event?
Tents pre-set up. Variety of vendors. And no booths were "advertisers",
like pool/spas, As Seen On TV, chiropractors, etc.!!
Having the tents set up was a huge help and making sure they were
secure for wind. The food trucks were great!
Was really extremely nice to have the tents provided for us. Seemed
more organized. Nice to have helpers even though I personally didn't use
them.
Loved the tents
o Any overall feedback for the event?
Thanks so much for the hard work!
If this is your first year with the art section then I suggest keep doing it.
Good event. Better each year. My lack of sales somewhat hinder my
opinion this year.
More music, more attractions such as fish and game live fish or birds
o Additional feedback on logistics
Check-in was a bit confusing as I was a first time vendor. I wasn't sure
where it was okay to park while I checked in and unloaded. I was fearful
that I might be towed away if I left my car for a minute. But that part
turned out okay after I went through the process. Sooooo happy that you
had tents set up for us. That was a relief! And it made the park look more
upscale and consistent. The guys with the wagons were hard to find.
Maybe could have used a couple more of them? Load-out was better as I
was able to get closer to my tent. That's a crowded road. Would have
been easier if the food vendors weren't in there. We did not understand
why we needed a parking pass until the very end. I didn't know if it was
for the park, or where/why to use it. Fees were AWESOME! Nice to have
the entertainment at the shelter. Wish we could have heard the music
more on the upper end. Day and time were about right, though some
thought the time might be extended to overlap with people coming for
evening events, like the speedway or carnival. Love the quick e-mail
responses to my inquiries. Sad that vendors left before 6:00. Maybe an
incentive to stay till 6 is needed? Thanks so much, Hillary and crew.
3/1
This event worked great for us, but we were not selling anything. Just a
voting on the kids horses for the Stampede Community Festival. I know
others close to me were disappointed with sales.
Well organized.....Lots of helpers, etc.
It would be better to have the event last until 8 since the rides last that
long. Many people tried to come and look, but saw the artists packing up.
Also, artists should not be allowed to pack up early. It sends the wrong
message and affects all of us.
Public Art Projects Updates
Traffic Box Art updates covered in the meeting discussion.
Park Identities at Heroes Park
o City Council were updated on the heroes to be featured on the
