Adoption of the Agenda (Leslie Mauldin) Motion by Stephanie; second by Claudia to adopt the agenda – all ayes – motion carried. 3. Approval of April 13, 2017 Regular Meeting Minutes (Leslie Mauldin) Motion by Taylor; second by Claudia to approve the April 13 th regular meeting minutes – all ayes – motion carried. 4. New Business a. Consideration to Purchase Creative Benches for South Meridian Regional Park, Designs by Ken McCall (Mike Barton) The Parks Department would like to buy these benches for the South Meridian Regional Park and Mike asked if MAC would consider purchasing some of the benches with their MAPS funds since this idea was brought to Parks through commissions and they used a pre-approved artist from the roster to design the benches. Motion by Claudia; second by Ellen to approve not-to-exceed $5,000 for benches to be installed at South Meridian Regional Park – seven ayes, one nay from Taylor – motion carried. b. Art on the Street (Martin Schindler) Marty Schindler, MDBA vice-president, shared an update on the Art on the Street program on Idaho Avenue. Marty asked for the commission’s help with the call to To develop, advance and nurture all facets of the arts to enhance the quality of life for Meridian residents and its visitors MERIDIAN ARTS COMMISSION AGENDA  MAY 11, 2017  PAGE 2 artists. Gina and the Meridian Art Week committee will work with Marty to figure out the best way to incorporate this event with Meridian Art Week. Motion by Ellen; second by Taylor to support the development and di stribution of a call to artist – all ayes – motion carried. c. Public Art Mural Campaign (Ellen DeAngelis) Ellen shared a report on the Public Art Mural Campaign. She is currently working with Hillary and local businesses to establish a list of sites, both public and private, for MAC to consider and for MAC to potentially forward to the Meridian Development Corp. for their site selection. d. Meeting Format – Robert’s Rules (Hillary Bodnar & Emily Kane) Hillary covered a few items that may help the commission meetings go more smoothly: obtaining the floor, referring to a committee, and crafting a motion. e. Election for Vice-Chair (Leslie Mauldin) Ellen nominated Bonnie for vice-chair. Claudia expressed concern that Bonnie may refuse the nomination if she were present. Elections continued to next meeting. 5. Old Business a. Meridian Press Advertisements (Hillary Bodnar) The commissioners debated how events should be marketed and how much funding from the base budget should be spent on advertising/marketing/outreach. Hillary showed the commission some examples of ads that could run or a postcard that could be sent out. Taylor recommended changing some wording in the drafted ads. Motion by Ellen; second by Claudia to run six weeks of ads in the Meridian Press for not-to-exceed $800 – all ayes – motion carried. b. Traffic Box Art Replacement Process Gretchen provided a summary of the subcommittee meeting (Bonnie, Gretchen, Mary). Their meeting evolved into a discussion about creating a policy for accession/deaccession. Hillary will meet with Emily and share notes from the subcommittee and draft a policy that will be reviewed by the committee again prior to coming before MAC. c. West Ada’s 2017 Student Art Show ‘Framed’ (Gina Lyon) (1) Visual Arts Awards Visual Arts Awards nominees were shared. Motion by Gina; second by Stephanie to accept the nominations and approve not-to-exceed $150 for the visual arts awards for the high school, middle school, and elementary artists – all ayes – motion carried. (2) Traffic Box Nominations MERIDIAN ARTS COMMISSION AGENDA  MAY 11, 2017  PAGE 3 Motion by Gina; second by Ellen to accept the traffic box nominations for MDC boxes in the Urban Renewal Area and authorize Hillary to reach out to the guardians of the artists presented – all ayes – motion carried. 6. Reports, Presentations, Subcommittee Reports, Liaison Reports, Staff Reports a. Approval of Monthly Financial Report (Hillary Bodnar) Motion by Claudia; second by Ellen to approve the monthly financial report – all ayes – motion carried. b. Liaison Reports (1) Theater & Performing Arts (Gretchen Caserotti) Gretchen provided a report on Tomato Plan Girl production, although it wasn’t sponsored by MAC, as the last production in the current building that Treasure Valley Youth Theater occupies. They will be mov ed out by early June. (2) Initial Point Gallery (Bonnie Griffith) i. Current Exhibit: Creative Critique Coffee Club (Stephanie Barnes) Stephanie provided a review of the 4C’s reception. (3) Dairy Days Art Show, June 24, 2017 (Stephanie Barnes) Stephanie provided an update on the Dairy Days Art Show. (4) Concerts on Broadway (Mary Jensen) Mary provided an update on Concerts on Broadway. (5) Meridian Art Week, September 9-16, 2017 (Gina Lyon) Gina stepped up as the chair for the Meridian Art Week subcommittee and provided a report from their subcommittee meeting. Commissioners voted on a theme for the chalk art competition. Major ity of votes were for a quote by Picasso: “Everything you can imagine is real.” c. Admin Report (Hillary Bodnar) Hillary provided an admin report and mentioned that she will be setting up more committee meetings. 7. Next Meeting No items noted to add to the next meeting agenda. 8.
