Anyone desiring accommodation for disabilities related to documents and / or hearings,
please contact the City Clerk’s Office at 888-4433 at least 48 hours prior to the public meeting.
b. City Comprehensive Plan Review
Brian McClure and Caleb Hood gave an overview on the City’s
Comprehensive Plan. These items have been approved by the City
Council, and we have bound ourselves to complete them. There are 14
items that include HPC, for some HPC is the lead and others HPC is a
support for the objective. The City can incorporate more items if needed,
they can also include changes or updates periodically as the
comprehensive plan is reviewed. The most recent Comprehensive Plan
was adopted in 2011.
Motion by to create a subcommittee to review the City Comprehensive
Plan and the state of the priority level by J. Jones, seconded by D. Cronk –
all ayes – motion carried.
B. Johnston, J. Jones, and D. Cronk volunteered for the committee. H.
Bodnar will reach out to Pete L’Orange to figure out a time to meet.
c. HPC “Coin” Award
The idea for some kind of ‘coin award’ was brought up at the Historic
Preservation Month event. J. Jones presented to the commission.
Essentially, we would complete questions for each component of the
Historical Walking Tour. People will be challenged to answer all of these
questions and get stickers, when people show that they have answered all
of the questions and have all their stickers they will be rewarded by the
presentation of a coin (possibly by the Mayor, City Council, or HPC as a
group). The commission mentioned the possibility of raising funds through
sponsorships.
Motion to approve not to exceed $1,500 for the design and purchase of
HPC Challenge Coins for the Tour Buddy App by J. Jones, seconded by
D. Cronk. – all ayes – motion carried
d. “Settlers Make the Desert Bloom” on City Website
H. Bodnar brought up that Lila Hill, Historical Society, had inq uired about
putting the “Settlers Make the Desert Bloom” video online. We have a
portion of this video that we normally show to the teachers who take the
Meridian history course with a voice-over that we could put on the city
website. HPC commissioners asked if we could add an introduction by Lila
Hill.
e. American Association for State and Local History Membership
Lila Hill also suggested the HPC consider a membership with AASLH.
HPC discussed and determined that this may be p ossible for the next
fiscal year. AASLH offers online courses, conferences, and webinars. H.
Bodnar to send a link to the AASLH website to commissioners.

apply for an Idaho State Historical Society grant, depending on the need.

HPC – June 2017
Not a lot of activity this month.
Robbie came to the History Center this week – he was there for the Historical Society
meeting which is next week! But he is out & driving some, they both begin a round of
physical therapy next week.
Doug Rutan entered the 1937 school bus in the Westlake Drive 60 th anniversary Car
Show & it won the first place trophy! It is also entered in the Dairy Show Parade. If you
want to ride in it contact Doug.
The income tax filing is complete & I will sign it later today –
Linda will make a Meridian History short presentation at a Meridian Library event in
June.
School tours are over for the year & some of the displays will have some changes
before fall.
The outer display room will be open for the Public Works event – one of their employees
will be at a display close by & will do the “hosting.”
Linda reported a little girl could be heard in the entry hall telling her Daddy that there
was a horsey, horsey & she came in for a good look!

CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT
EVALUATION CRITERIA
REPORTING FORM
1 of 18
Certified Local Government: Date:
SHPO Reviewer:
CLG Contact(s):
CLG Contact phone number:
CLG Contact email address:
The CLG program is a dynamic partnership between local governments, the Idaho State Historic
Preservation Office (SHPO), and the National Park Service (NPS), to assist diverse communities in
preserving their unique historic character. One of the requirements assigned to the SHPO is the
evaluation of CLG programs in their state; every CLG program should be evaluated at least once
every four (4) years. In an effort to make this as straightforward and easy as possible, the Idaho
SHPO has developed this form to assist in the evaluation process.
Please complete this questionnaire and return to the CLG Coordinator at:
Postal: Email:
Pete L'Orange
State Historic Preservation Office
210 Main Street
Boise, ID 83702
pete.lorange@ishs.idaho.gov
Once you have returned the completed questionnaire and any additional documentation which may
apply, SHPO Staff will review your responses and complete our portion of the review. Staff may
contact you with addition questions or for any clarification. Once the SHPO’s review is complete,
we will send you a letter with our findings and a copy of the completed evaluation form for your
records.
If you have any questions or concerns as you are completing this evaluation form, please contact:
Pete L'Orange, Historic Preservation Planner/CLG Coordinator, by phone at (208) 488-7471 or by
email at pete.lorange@ishs.idaho.gov immediately.
Thank you for your continued dedication to Historic Preservation in Idaho!
Pete L'Orange
CLG Coordinator
