Call for Artists: 2017 ART WEEK CHALK ART COMPETITION
OVERVIEW:
The Meridian Arts Commission (MAC) seeks high school teams to compete in our second annual Art

provide a rationale for how their completed work embodies the theme and it should be apparent to
passersby. Monetary awards will be granted to the school art departments of the three teams with
the highest scored artwork.

Each team should consist of at least two students enrolled in a high school in the West Ada School
District, or another high school within the Meridian city limits (private, charter, etc.). All team
members must be high school students. Teams are welcome to bring their own supplies, but MAC
will provide chalk pastels that the artists may use.
DEADLINE: Register your team by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017.
AWARDS:
A panel of representatives will jury the completed chalk art based on the criteria below :
Interpretation and the clarity of the theme to the viewer (5 points)
Creativity and originality of the depicted theme (5 points)
Quality of artistic composition, workmanship, and overall design (5 points)
Overall impression of the art (5 points)
Awards will be directed to the art departments of the school that the students represent. The

Budget Amendments
Finance has to have all budget amendments in by the end of June 30th. This
means that they must be notified of any changes to the budget for the rest of the
year. All sponsorships need to be solidified either by receiving their actual
contribution or by a written agreement that those funds will be received prior to
the end of the fiscal year.
Hillary will request spending authority for MAC for the following revenues:
Initial Point Gallery: $485
Dairy Days Art Show Applications: $540
Dairy Days Art Show Sponsorships: $500
Dairy Days Art Show Arts Foundation Contribution (pending agreement): $500
Dairy Days Art Show Dairy Board Contribution: $1000
MDC Traffic Box Art (Agreement): $5000

Public Art Projects Updates
Traffic Box Art
o A sponsored box that we had already wrapped was removed and
replaced. The wrapped box will be put back into the field, but the location
is to be determined. The sponsor, Alaska National Insurance, would like to
select a piece from the new repository, once approved, to wrap at Eagle
and Pine. I think it would be responsible for MAC to pay for the wrap at
Eagle and Pine, but let Alaska National Insurance select the work since
they got less than a year out of their sponsorship.
Park Identities at Heroes Park
o Ken working on getting permissions for each of the trailmarkers
Alex Fox, Dean Brigham, Gregory “Pappy” Boyington, Kristin
