2017 02-22Solid Waste Advisory Commission Meeting – February 22, 2017 A CITY OF MERIDIAN SOLID WASTE ADVISORY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES February 22, 2017 4:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. 1. Call to Order: Called to order at 4:02 p.m. The agenda was not posted as required. Motion to amend agenda to include items 1-9 as presented before the commissioners. Approval of the Agenda: Approve as amended Motion by Andrea and second by Mark Nelson to approve Agenda as published – all ayes – motion carried 4. Approval of Minutes: January 25, 2017 Motion by Victoria Madrigal and second by Mark Nelson – all ayes motion carries Break for Commission Photo 5. Presentation: Solid Waste Advisory Commission Meeting – February 22, 2017 A. Trash or Treasure Pilot Program Brett using a slide show; provided information on the Trash to Treasure Pilot Program. The original idea for this program came from a family trip to Canada, where Brett and his family participated in the 10th annual event there. This pilot program for Meridian will be promoted in 3 subdivisions (Burney Glen, Copper Basin and Havasu Creek). HOA’s have been contacted, are excited to participate as well as provide feedback for future events. Set out day will be April 29th and 30th; anything on the curb is free for the taking by passersby. Anything remaining on the curb May 1st (normal trash day) will be collected by Republic Services. Republic service has offered to cover the cost of flyers, news releases, entrance flags/signs etc. Motion to approve the Trash to Treasure Pilot Program as presented and move forward to City Council a recommendation that City of Meridian’s SWAC be allowed to proceed with this event. Motion by Megan Larsen Seconded by Karie Glenn B. SWAC Annual Report Steve ran through his presentation regarding the 2016 SWAC Annual report. Commissioners provided feedback on various slides and topics. 6. Old Business A. Republic Services’ Christmas Tree Pick-up Report Not a good year, they are still finding some buried under the snow B. CRFP Bench Project- Update A meeting with MAC, Parks and an Artist as held. Parks has suggested the new park in South Meridian. The artist is drawing up some designs for 6-7 benches. More info to come. 7. New Business A. "Snowmaggedon" and Trash Collection -Update B. Cul-de-sac's and Trash Collection -Report A&B reported on together Rachelle reports that 16 extra employees were brought in to assist during the snow events. Pulling carts to trucks, digging out dumpsters, etc. With this increased snow fall for the year, new protocols have been established for future such events. Items such as: Public Information Team (Mayors office, Legal, Billing) Ally Customers will need to get carts to main street access and Central District Health to be Notified, Maintain direct contact with ACHD and HOA's Overall = 40 tow outs, several injuries and several drivers over their DOT hours. Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Dean for participating in this program. Any signage for the expo event should be sent to Andrea for use and placement. 8. Next Meeting: March 22, 2017 a.
