Business Association (MDBA) vice-president about paying for future costs
for the app, $1000/annually. B. Nary suggests that we draw up an
agreement with the MDBA for this support. The MDBA would maintain a
login for the walking tour so that they may independently manage the
businesses represented there. J. Evarts offered to train members of the
historical society if they are interested in learning more about the app or
adding content.
b. City Council Report Update and Resolution Approval
Resolution 17-1197 was approved by City Council on February 20, 2017.
B. Johnston reported that City Council was very happy with everything that
HPC is doing, as compared to not producing as much in years prior.
c. CLG Grant Awarded for Walking Tour Brochures
i. Budget Amendment for Spending Authority
H. Bodnar went before Council for spending authority for the funds
awarded from the Certified Local Government Grant, Council
approved on March 7, 2017. J. Jones added for the record that H.
Bodnar can ask commissioners to attend any meeting for items that
comes before Council.
ii. Vendor Selection and Next Steps
J. Evarts and J. Jones volunteered to find photos and come back to
HPC with suggestions. J. Jones mentioned that some interior
photos may be nice to include also. H. Bodnar will follow up with J.
Evarts to go through the brochures to pick out the photos we want
replaced. J. Jones said that the brochures should have photos of
the buildings that users would be interested in seeing; she is more
worried about the consistency of the design, rather than
consistency between the number of photos per page.
8. Old Business
a. Engaging Local Students – Meridian High School
i. Lunch & Learn Program – Friday, March 17, 10:52 – 11:31 AM
B. Johnston, J. Jones, and J. Evarts will attend. H. Bodnar will also

a subcommittee to discuss and evaluate student essays. H. Bodnar
will edit the call to artists and B. Nary will finalize acknowledgements.
b. Historic Walking Tour Re-Orientation with Volunteers
H. Bodnar brought this idea to HPC as mentioned to her by Barbara
Hatch, Parks Department Volunteer Coordinator. J. Jones was in favor of
an internal City Hall re-orientation for volunteers and new recruits and
would be willing to help with that. We can invite the volunteers who are
interested in the walking tour portion to the walking tour app launch in
May.
c. 2017 Meridian History Course Update
B. Nary and H. Bodnar met this morning to divvy up the phone calls to
schedule tours. Right now, we are planning on having the Mint and Dairy
farm tours on the second day, Thursday, June 15; and a Zamzows tour
and Pine Street School tour on Wednesday, June 14.
d. Historic Preservation Month May 2017 Planning
i. Updated Theme: Adventures in Preservation
1. Logo Development and Branding
H. Bodnar did some research and determined that a
minimum budget to consider for logo development is $1000.
J. Evarts said that there is a full process for this kind of effort
and that it will take much longer than May, Historic
Preservation Month, looking at more toward this summer in
order to do this right. J. Evarts will take charge of the logo.
H. Bodnar and B. Nary will follow up with Kaycee Emery.
The three will run concept ideas by Kaycee Emery prior to
the April meeting. L. Hill added that “Meridian” should be
present in the logo.
2. Scavenger Hunt
J. Jones presented the scavenger hunt idea. J. Evarts asked
for the commission to consider a different hashtag,
#MeridianHistory, instead of #PreserveMeridian. J. Jones
said that there were some existing #MeridianHistory online,
but that there is only Meridian Idaho content for that hashtag
on Instagram. J. Jones brought up how to get prizes, copies
of the art pieces that were drawn for us, etc. J. Evarts
volunteered to go to Blue Sky Bagels and Frankie’s Java.
Lila Hill suggested that we add the elevation for Meridian
City Hall – which is listed on a bronze inset in the floor of the
lobby.

3. Historic Tours
H. Bodnar mentioned that one option that HPC could
consider would be to promote tours that local families
already offer. J. Evarts and J. Jones suggested that HPC
rely more on Tour Buddy launch event. May 11th 6:30 was
determined as the night for this event, after the HPC
meeting. BJ asked for us to keep the May meeting light. No
extra things. BN suggested that we invite Mayor, members
of the Council, commissioners, etc.
ii. If This Property Could Talk
1. Design Review and Final Approval
J. Jones – new designs could be approved at April meeting.
J. Evarts asked for input for how to make improvements, will

order eight footprints for NTE $2,000 – all ayes – motion carried.
