2016 12-28A CITY OF MERIDIAN SOLID WASTE ADVISORY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, December 28, 2016 4:00 P.M. — 5:00 P.M. Meridian City Hall, Council Chambers 33 East Broadway Avenue Meridian, Idaho 208-888-4433 1. Call to Order The Chair welcomed new Commissioners Neal and Larsen 2. Roll -call Attendance: A. Approval of Minutes: October 26, 2016 Meeting Motion to approve by SW; seconded by CC: passed 5. Presentation: 6. Old Business A. Residential Recycling Program - (1) Hand in Hand We Recycle- Status Report (RK) Andrea presented for RK. The Program has returned $244 to the CRFP. Cardboard is the big stream although contamination is still occurring. Commissioners should try to participate to experience how the program is set up and to see if there are ways to improve it. (2) CRFP- SWAC/MAC Bench Project- Update A meeting is set for 2/7 at 9:30 am for AP, MAC representative, and Parks staff to talk about the bench project. (3) Trash or Treasure Pilot Program -Update The subcommittee is hard at work building this program and is set to bring it to SWAC on 2/22/17. B. Presentation of Annual Report to City Council -Discussion Solid Waste Advisory Commission Meeting — December 28, 2016. Page 1 of 1 All Materials presented at public meetings shall become property of the City of Meridian. The approved report was tweaked to reflect the following changes which occurred by November 30, 2016: (1) The Hand in Hand We Recycle! Program has returned $283 to the CRFP which grew to a balance of $11,672.32; and (2) City Council appointed both Dave Neal and Megan Larsen to SWAC. 7. New Business A. Meridian Police Department Prescription Drop -Off Program -2016 Update Neither Sergeant Parsons nor Rachele Klein were present so SC provided the following information: In 2015 2,980 lbs. (or 179 boxes) of prescription drugs were dropped off at MPD compared to a 21% increase in 2016 to 3800 lbs, (or 215 boxes). That is good news. The Commission thinks it would be a good idea to bring this topic back with a presentation to learn more about how the program works and to see if SWAC can do anything to assist it. B. HHW Program-FY2016 summary (RK) Continued to next month. 8. Next Meeting: January 25, 2017 9.
