Public Art Initiatives in Downtown Meridian, Marty Schindler 3:46 Marty Schindler addressed MAC on the current Idaho Avenue initiatives/pilot programs, handout attached. c. Council Chambers Technology Update Overview Hillary told the commission about the Chamber updates and asked if any of the commissioners are interested in using the individual computers. d. State of the City - Wednesday, February 8, 2016 at 3:59 p.m. Mary advised the commission on the date and time of the Mayor’s State of the City, as listed above. e. 2017 Term Expirations Gretchen and Michelle’s terms will expire in February. They should be receiving letters shortly, but if they don’t have them by the end of the week commissioners were advised to contact Hillary and let her know so we can get application materials to them. f. Meeting Time Consideration Hillary asked the commissioners if this time worked well for everyone. If commissioners have time/day concerns, please send them to Hillary. g. Grant Applications h. Hillary invited commissioners to find grants and send them to her so City staff can review before bringing before MAC. Mary reminded commissioners that if they find grants that they think may apply to other aspects of MAC they are welcome to forward those to Hillary also. S. Old business a. Meridian Writes — Meridian Library District Program Update Hillary relayed an invitation from Megan Egbert for a MAC commissioner to serve as one of the community readers. Mary asked commissioners to email Hillary if you are interested in serving as a community reader. Finalist recognition event will take place on April 12 at Cherry Lane branch. b. Update to Strategic Plan to Include MAPS Planning Projects Motion by Leslie to adopt the changes to MAC's Strategic Plan in regards to MAPS, seconded by Stephanie — all ayes — motion carried. 6. A three year pilot program began in May of 2o16 in which we prototype and test, elements and amenities laying the groundwork in preparation to permanent construction and its final streetscape design in coming years Phase 1; successfully implemented May, 2016, with positive impact, gained people's attention, which helped influenced 1.6 million of property acquisition and renovation between Main and 2nd on Idaho ave Phase II — 2017 — 2018, Project objective: Implement Creative Placemaking - part I & 11 Art ow the street; part 1, Continuing LQC philosophy Arts*loe; physical project anchor, part 2 - Creative enterprise, hub "Creative placemaking animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired". Rench — "Natives" o Signage order placed, stalled due to cold weather. • Park Identities at Heroes Park, RFP o MAC + MPRC Recommendation to Council: Tuesday (January 10, 2017) o Ken McCall and committee members met Wednesday (January 11, 2017) to discuss the heroes represented and forward recommendations to the Mayor on who is represented in main structures and how the process will work for the milemarker hero selection • Next identified public art project is the FYI 8 Mural Campaign. Initial Point Gallery • Old Town Meridian Woodworking has completed the credenza for Initial Point Gallery! Go check it out after the meeting to see the full piece. I am going to have it pushed to the wall early next week. • Change out and reception times for IPG in 2017 have been modified: o Removal will take place at 9:00 a.m., o Installation will take place at 9:30 a.m. o Receptions will take place from 4:30-7:00 p.m. • Current exhibit: "Small Schools' Voices" (High School Student Exhibit) o Installed Friday, December 16`h o Reception Rescheduled to Tuesday, January 3rd from 4:30-6:30 p.m. • Next exhibit: Time Allen (1/4), Paula Ryan (1/4), Megan Sharratt (1/2 + 3D) o Install scheduled for Friday, February 3, 2017 @ 9:30 a.m. o Reception Tuesday, February 7`h from 4:30-7:00 p.m. • 2017 Exhibitions o Three months still need a MAC host for the reception; sign-up sheet will be passed around and forwarded to commissioners once complete.
