The Meridian Parks 8 Recreation Commission is a volunteer citizens' group that is created and
empowered to advise the City on issues relating to park facilities and recreation programs of the City.
Their mission is to gather input from staff and other qualified personnel on issues relating to the
creation and design of public parks and open spaces; to listen to public input; and to provide advice
and recommendations on parks and recreation related matters to the Mayor and City Council.

1. Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Planning

2. Children's Winterland Festival Planning

3. Movie Night
The Committee discussed in length the new policy in place in which kids under 18 must be
accompanied by a parent/guardian. This has helped considerably to enhance the family-
friendly atmosphere in Settlers Park.
There was also a discussion about potentially making a separate teen movie night. Out of
this conversation, the Committee identified a need for a community recreation center,
which could contain an indoor teen movie night.

4. Community Block Party
This is scheduled for September 8. Rehab Authority is the sponsor. This event will involve
demonstrations on community classes that are happening and a potential family 5k run. A
couple of radio stations are doing promotions. Colin Moss is still working on some of the
details. The Meridian Police Activities League (MPAL) will be having their jamboree. There
will be jump houses, a hamster ball, and other games/activities.
