2007-12-12 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2007 AT 7:OOPM Meridian City Hall Council Chambers Statement of Purpose and Authority: The Parks and Recreation Commission for the City of Meridian is a volunteer citizen's group that is created and empowered to advise the city on issues relating to the park facilities and recreation programs of the City. Their mission is to gather input from staff and other qualified personnel on issues relating to the creation and design of public parks and open spaces; to listen to public input; and to provide advice and recommendations on parks and recreation related matters to the Mayor and City Council. O APPROVED AS AMENDED - Review November Commission Actions: ACKNOWLEDGED Heroes Community Park -Approved as presented. Castle Rock Neighborhood Park -Approved as amended. Messina Meadows Pazk Name -Approved as "Verona Pazk." Babe Ruth World Series /Meridian All-Stazs -Approved sign as presented. V. MESSINA MEADOWS RECOMMEND APPROVAL TO C/C John Nesmith will discuss re-naming the Messina Meadows Park due to the current commission approved name is the same as a subdivision on the north side of town. (Commission Recommendation Required) VI. PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION ELECTION PRES-JOHN NESMITH, VICE PRES-GREG STEELE The commission will elect a new Vice President for 2008. The current Vice President moves into the President's position. COMMTTTEES: NO ADDITIONAL REPORTS Committee Meetings will be held monthly prior to the regularly scheduled commission meeting at City Hall in the Council Chambers from 6-7pm. A. Recreation & Saecial Events Committee: Help create contirmity and involvement in community parks and recreation programs by proposing, promoting and facilitating special events. John Nesmith, Bruce MaeCoy, ton Cecil, and assistance from Allison Kaptein and/or Colin Moss from the Recreation Department. B. Park Amenities & Sienese Committee: To defrne future park locations, themes, signage and amenities to better serve the impeding growth demands of the City of Meridian. Working closely with Meridian Parks & Recreation Department to develop and implement these new concepts into a more functional park system serving both young and old alike.
