Their mission is to gather input from staff and other qualified personnel on issues relating to the creation and design of public parks and open spaces; to listen to public input; and to provide advice and recommendations on parks and recreation related matters to the Mayor and City Council. New Business a. Tour of Meridian Parks & Recreation Facilities Members of the public are invited to join the tour. Space is limited on the bus and available on a first-come, first- served basis. In addition, a boxed dinner sponsored by The Russell Corporation will be served. Please contact Rachel Myers at 888-3579 to inquire about seating and to RSVP for the dinner by Monday, September 12, 2016. If the bus is full, you are welcome to follow in your own vehicle. New Business The group gathered outside of the Meridian City Hall Plaza at 4:30 p.m. MPR Director Steve Siddoway welcomed everyone, and introductions were made. a. Tour of Meridian Parks Et Recreation Facilities - Steve Siddoway Participants loaded a charter bus to embark on their tour of various sites within Meridian. Steve Siddoway was the main tour guide. While driving to Site #1, topics included: Downtown Trees/Boxes, Downtown Flower Pots, and Meridian Community Center. Tour Sites, Route, Key Topics, Et Speakers: 1) Boys Et Girls Club (911 N. Meridian Road) - Topic: Gym/ Partnership. Speaker: Steve Siddoway. The bus drove by the site. 2) Meridian Homecourt (936 Taylor Avenue) - Topics: Pending Close on the Property/Agreements, Staffing Needs, Upcoming Improvement Projects, Sports Programming, and Classes Et Camps. Speakers: Steve Siddoway, Garrett White, and Jake Garro. Participants exited the bus and viewed the inside of the facility. 3) Tully Park (2500 N. Linder Road) - Topics: Recognize The Russell Corporation (this year's dinner sponsor); Outdoor Gym Equipment/MYAC Involvement; Memorial Program; and Maintenance Efforts - Security Cameras, LED Upgrades, and Irrigation. Speakers: Steve Siddoway, Mike Barton, and Roger Norberg. Guests exited the bus and visited the site where the new fitness equipment will be installed. They ate dinner under the large picnic shelter. While driving to Site #4, Jay Gibbons gave a Pathways update. 4) Reta Huskey Park (Future neighborhood park in the Bellano Creek Subdivision off of Ten Mile Road near Ustick Road) - Topics: Park Amenities, Elements, and Construction Timeline. Speaker: Mike Barton. Passengers remained on the bus and viewed the parcel of land to be developed. 5) Bainbridge Park (Future neighborhood parkin the Bainbridge Subdivision off of Ten Mile Road between McMillan and Chinden Roads) - Topics: Park Amenities, Elements, and Construction Timeline. Speaker: Mike Barton. Passengers remained on the bus and viewed the parcel of land to be developed. While driving to Site #6, Barbara Hatch gave a Park Ambassador Program update and recognized the three volunteers who were present for the tour— Dave Pritchard, Hugh Fryling, and James Smart. 6) Settlers Park (3245 N. Meridian Road) - Topics: Future Fishing Dock at the Pond, Playground Safety Surfacing, Special Events, and MPR Staff. Speakers: Steve Siddoway, Mike Barton, and Renee White. Passengers remained on the bus. 7) Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park (1900 N. Records Avenue) - Topics: Disc Golf Course, Temporary Use Permits, MPR Dept. Statistics, New SportsMan Software, Hillsdale Park (Theming, Amenities, Elements, and Construction Timeline), 77 - Acre Park (Amenities, Elements, and Construction Timeline), Arboretum/Urban Forestry, and Community Garden. Speakers: Colin Moss, Mike Barton, Elroy Huff, and Juli Bokenkamp. Passengers exited the bus and toured on foot the Community Garden. Easels with displays boards of site plans were shown of the future Hillsdale and 77 -Acre Parks at Shelter B-1, which depicted park elements, amenities, and theming.
