Boys & Girls Club Partnership ProposalBoys & Girls Club / City of Meridian Partnership Proposal 1 Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County – Meridian Club Club serves over 1,200 local youth – ages 5 to 18 School year membership is $10; Summer membership is $25 Members: 80% qualify for free or reduced lunch / 36% live at or below poverty level 10,800 sq. ft. Clubhouse averages 225/day school year and 280/day summer Club runs at 125% of recommended capacity during the school year; 156% of capacity during the summer (based on operating standards from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.) Club must cap memberships during the summer, turning away at least 100 kids each year. 2 THE NEED: More space: We need to eliminate our waiting list! Active Space: Club needs more space for kids to be physically active! Sports: Our members deserve opportunities to participate in team sports; Separate Teen Space: Teen members are hard to attract and retain. Clubs with separate teen facilities have more teens, and the teens attend more often. Academic Program Space: Club lacks adequate space for our growing academic enrichment programs; School Year Transportation: Critical to our ability to serve low-income / at-risk youth. 3 4 THE RESPONSE Construct a gymnasium / teen center facility that will: Allow us to eliminate our waiting list! Provide our members daily opportunities for physical activity; Provide opportunities for organized team sports for disadvantaged youth! Provide appealing, dedicated space to enhance and grow our teen program! Provide increased space for our academic enrichment programs! Allow for community partnerships that will increase community recreation opportunities - resulting in improved health and wellbeing of residents in Meridian! 5 Includes: 7,500 Sq. Ft. Annual transportation grant of $9,000 to support a transportation program for highest need schools including Peregrine, Chief Joseph, Barbara Morgan Stem Academy, Meridian Middle School, Meridian High School. 13 BENEFITS TO CITY OF MERIDIAN The Community benefits when we all work together! Priority Use of Boys & Girls Club Gym for Community Recreation 10 year agreement, renewable in 5 year increments; Parks & Rec will have use of gym M-TH, 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Option for usage on other days/times based on availability.
