BIRD, HOAGLUN, ROUNTREE, ZAREMBA
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MERIDIAN, APPOINTING KENT GOLDTHORPE TO SEAT 8 OF THE PARKS AND
RECREATION COMMISSION, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Meridian City Code Title 2, Chapter 2 establishes the Meridian Parks and
Recreation Commission, its members and terms of their appointments;
and
WHEREAS, Seat 8 of the Meridian Parks and Recreation Commission is currently vacant;
WHEREAS, the remaining term of Seat 8 of the Commission will expire October 31, 2012;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Meridian deems the appointment of Kent
Goldthorpe to Seat 8 to be in the best interest of the Commission and of the City of Meridian;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN CITY, IDAHO:
Section 1. That, pursuant to Meridian City Code § 2-2-3(A)(2), Kent Goldthorpe is hereby
appointed to Seat 8 of the Meridian Parks and Recreation Commission, for a term to expire on
October 31, 2012.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its
adoption and approval.

Mayor Tammy:
I consider it a pleasure to send you this letter of interest regarding the volunteer position on the
Meridian Parks and Recreation Commission. Having lived in Meridian since 19861 look at this
as a wonderful opportunity to give something back to the city that my wife and I consider the
greatest place on earth to raise a family.
I have watched in awe as Meridian has grown these past decades. As satisfying as anything to
my wife and I has been the emphasis that Meridian has placed on its parks and open spaces.
Over the years, whether it has been repainting a school, striping a parking lot, planting trees in
new parks as part of Eagle Scout service projects or organizing large groups of volunteers from
church groups to perform during "911 days of service" projects my favorite beneficiary of service
to the community has been Parks and Recreation.
Even though I have worked in many situations to improve Meridian through service I feel like
Meridian should be receiving far more service than it does. I would appreciate your
consideration of me for this position as a way to allow me a more meaningful way to participate
in continuing the legacy of excellence established thus far by the Commission.
I hope that you will find my resume to be something that would complement those already on
the Commission and look forward to serving in many ways and for many years the great City of

Personal/Volunteer Service
Volunteer Boy Scout leader since 1976. In this position I have supervised many Eagle
Scout candidates in the Meridian District with Meridian Schools and Parks & Recreation
being the beneficiary of several Eagle projects.
Activities Committee Chair, 2009— 2011, Boise Idaho University Stake, LDS Church. I
managed the organization and execution of several large service related activities
including one very large one in 2010 on September 11th benefiting the City of Meridian
with 7 different projects going at once on the same day.
2010 — 2012: I held several positions within the Idaho State Republican Party including
District Chairman, District 21, member of the Ada County Central Committee Executive
Board, State Central Committee and was a member of the 2012 Ada County Republican
Presidential Caucus Planning Committee. Currently an Ada County Chairman, Romney
for President. I have been actively involved in political campaigns for many years.

I am married, have 7 children, all of which are grown and were educated in the Meridian
schools. We have 15 grandchildren. I enjoy most outdoor sports, have coached little
league, soccer and have volunteered for many years in the Boy Scouts of America
organization, conduct food drives, and am active in politics and my church.
It is my personal policy to bring to bear any and all positive influences that I can from my
profession to benefit my personal volunteer associations. Many Meridian businesses and
political candidates can attest to this.
