AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS, SECTION 2-3-2
MEMBERSHIP AND TERMS OF OFFICE TO PROVIDE FOR REVISIONS TO
THE APPOINTMENTS AND TERMS OF OFFICE AND TO THE MEMBERSHIP
OF THE COMMISSION; AND SECTION 2-3-6 DUTIES TO ADD ADDmONAL
LANGUAGE AND TO REMOVE WORDS TO THIS PARAGRAPH AND TO
PROVIDE FOR ADDmONAL SUBSECTIONS C. AND D., FOR THE CITY OF
MERIDIAN, IDAHO, OF CHAPTER 3 OF TITLE 2 OF THE MERIDIAN CITY
CODE; PROVIDING FOR APPEALS, CONFLICT, VALIDITY, SAVINGS
CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING FORAN EFFECTIVE DATE.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN, ADA COUNTY, IDAHO:
SECTION 1: That Section 2 Chapter 3 Title 2 Membership and Terms of Office of the
Meridian City Code, be, and the same is hereby amended and shall now read as follows:
2-3-2: MEMBERSHIP AND TERMS OF OFFICE:
A. Appointment; Terms: The Traffic Safety Commission shall consist of~ nine
í2} members to be appointed by the Mayor with the consent and approval of the
Council. Members of said Commission shall hold office for a period of~ fu!!!:
ill years each and said terms shall be staggered in such a manner so that the terms of
not more than three (3) members shall expire in anyone year. ~ Three (3) of
such members shall hold office for a term of two (2) years, tftFee.fJj the remainder for

B. Membership: Members shall be selected so that there shall always remain in the
Commission~ one school district administrator, one public works direeteF
representative, one City jl:ldge, ORe Coooty 6eHlHlissioRer one Ada County Highwav
District representative. one Chief of Poliee Police Dq)artment representative, one
City Attemey Prosecutor and ~ four (4) local citizens and shtIll serve wÎt.fl.eat

eOffifJ6RsatÌ6R. The four (4) local citizens should. ifpossible. re9resent different areas
of Meridian: Old Town. Northwest Meridian (fi'om west of Meridian Rd. to Black Cat
Rd. and north of the interstate to Chinden Blvd.). Northeast Meridian(ftom east of
Meridian Rd. to Eagle Rd. and north of the Interstate to Chinden Blvd.) and South
Meridian (to include all citY limits south of the Interstate). Representatives shall serve
on the committee without compensation.
SECTION 2: That Section 6 Chapter 3 Title 2 Duties of the Meridian City Code, be,
and the same is hereby amended and shall now read as follows:
2-3-6: DUTIES:
It shall be the duty of the Commission:
A. To recommend and make suggestions to the Mayor and Council for the adoption of
plans for traffic safety as originally recommended by the National Safety Council
Study of 1968. and as currentlv recommended in regulations studies. and
recommendations ITom the National Highway Traffic Safety Institute, the National
Safety Council and the National Transportation Board.
B. To coordinate all Meridian City traffic safety pIaM recommendations for
incOl:poration into the Ada County Highway District planning process and the State of
Idaho plan as applicable. and approved by the Mayor and Council.
C. To make suggestions for projects designed to increase safety in pedestrian and school
traffic in the City and to generally recommend to the Mayor and Council plans to
improve traffic safety in the entire City.
D. To work collaboratively and to plan for and accommodate growth related to traffic
and traffic safetY issues as they IIPply to the City's comprehensive plan.
Ih To receive review. and act on traffic safety concerns or issues brought forth by
citizens of Meridian. with recommendations to be forwarded to the Mayor and
Council.
SECTION 3: All ordinances, resolutions, orders or parts thereof in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed, rescinded and annulled.
SECTION 4: VALIDITY: The Meridian City Council hereby declares that any
section, paragraph, sentence or word of this Ordinance as adopted and amended herein be
declared for any reason to be invalid it is the intent of the Meridian City Council that it
would have passed all other portions of this Ordinance independent of the elimination
hereITom of any portion as may be declared invalid.
SECTION 5: SAVINGS CLAUSE: This Ordinance does not affect an action or
proceeding commenced or right accrued before this Ordinance takes effect.

SECTION 6: DATE OF EFFECT: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
after its passage, approval and publication, according to law.
