PZ - Public Testimony by Robin Brooks - 8/18Machelle Hill From: Robin Brooks <gegauffadv@evodata.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 18, 2015 10:27 AM To: Machelle Hill Subject: letter for the Aug 20 meeting Planning and Zoning To the Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission Regarding the Action Items 1 and 2, Creason Creek Subdivision August 20, 2015 Gentlemen and ladies, My comments concern the effects of new, overly dense housing and increased traffic in my area of Ustick Rd. and Linder Road. Fifty-one houses is simply too many for this small acreage at that intersection. This would seriously impact traffic at one of the busiest intersections in this area. Not only is the problem the serious increase in the number of cars, but simply getting into and out of the new sub -division would impact safety for all drivers. Air quality in Treasure Valley is also a big concern, and would get worse. I live in the Tumble Creek subdivision and we already getting added traffic from Ustick and Linder because it seems that drivers are using our subdivision roads as a shortcut to avoid that intersection. We have noticed an increase in speeding issues during commute times in this subdivision, as well as loud radios in the cars (what is known as "thumper"music) and other indicators of the coming deterioration of our peace of mind and likely the loss of property value. This morning I picked up litter from right in front of my house, which is becoming more common. This deterioration happens very quickly. My next comment continues to address the future of Meridian and the quality of life here. While it is clear that many of the local farms have voluntarily sold their land for profit, they have done so because developers have the money to buy up land. Why do we have Dairy Days if it is not to celebrate the heritage of this city? No farms, no food. I have not lived here long, but I am a conscientious homeowner. I picked this area for its open-ness. I come from an area in this country that had grown so fast in the 40 years I lived there that it became dangerous to live there, with increased costs of police presence, fire requirements, traffic control and overhead helicopter noise, street maintenance, etc. All the effects of rapid growth, urbanization, and the influx of people who don't obey the rules, with no mindfulness of water supply, public services, landfill space, and overall quality of life. This new subdivision should have far fewer houses, much larger lots, and should be set away from the intersection and also far away from the paramedic services at this intersection so that they can get in and out. In fact, it is prime park area. This subdivision submittal for Creason Creek is simply way too much development in way too small an area, inviting congestion and crime. You have the opportunity to plan better at this point in time. You will not have this opportunity once this is done. Robin Brooks (aka Robin Gegauff-Brooks) 2999 N. Glennfield Way.
