Vista Ave. Boise, ID 83705 RE: Soil test hole evaluation of Oak Leaf #2 Subdivision Today I observed the soils in two test pits on an approximately 9 acre parcel located north of West Sugar Tree Drive. Detailed soil profile descriptions are attached along with a map showing the Oak Leaf #2 boundary and the GPS location of the test pits on a 2013 imagery base. The soil profiles are quite similar in the upper part with silt loams and silty clay loams to a depth of about 4 feet below ground level. From that depth down to 9 feet are layers comprised of lenses of soil and weakly to moderately cemented hardpans. A 14 -inch thick layer of fine sandy loam was present at the 8 foot depth in test pit 2-15. Extremely gravelly sand is present below the 9 feet below ground level in both locations. Medium sand dominates this layer and about 20% cobbles are present. This material was observed to a depth of 15 feet below ground level. Deep borings and well logs in the area show these sand, gravel and cobble layers to be some 50 to 75 feet thick. These are well -drained soils and no free water or evidence of wetness was observed to a depth of 15 feet below ground level. I have observed numerous test pits on this landscape position within lh mile of this site and all have been dry to a depth of 15 feet or more. The high content of medium sand in the substratum "pit run" material makes it an excellent receiving soil for the planned storm drainage systems. 5.740 X. The rating is based on an ML or Cl Unified classification of the silt loam and silty clay loams in those horizons. R -values for the silt loams and silty clay loams present in the upper 24 inches will be less than 15 and possibly less than 10. We have an extensive database of R - value test data which correlates well to texture and clay contents of soils. These values should help you in determination of roadway profiles to be constructed. The soils observed are excellent for the proposed development for this site. These are deep profiles that are well -drained, dig with no difficulty and have good substratum materials.
