SPECIFICATIONS
1. Drilling.
The exact location of the bore will be staked in the field by the City of Meridian, or its
authorized representative. Approximately 40-feet of 8-inch diameter temporary casing
will bedrilled-and-driven through the surficial floodplain river cobbles. An 8-inch
diameter. bore will be advanced to approximately 750 feet below land surface using the.
direct mud-rotary drilling method. The total depth of the bore will be determined on site
by the City's hydrogeologist during the drilling process and may be more or less than 750
feet dependant on the drilled geologic section.
2. Sampling
The Contractor will obtain continuous representative samples from the drilled geologic
section and package the same in heavy duty freezer-type zip-lock bags at 5-foot 'intervals
and at lithology changes. The sample bags will be clearly Tabled using permanent
waterproof marker as to depth.
3. Geophysical logging.
After the borehole has been drilled to total depth, the Contractor shall remove the drill
stem from the bore and maintain the hole in an "open" condition to facilitate geophysical
logging of the entire length of the bore.
4. Abandonment.
Upon completion of the geophysical logging, the Contractor will again advance the
drilling steel to the total drilled depth, and abandon the well by pumping high solids
bentonite grout, from-the-bottom-up, until the hole is completely filed with grout. After
the hole is completely filled with grout, the temporary 8-inch casing will be pulled back
and the uncased hole kept filled with grout.
