NOTE: CITY OF MERIDIAN Planning & Zoning Memo Toe Mayor and City Council Fram Steve Siddoway, Planner II DaIec 1 October 2003 Rec Market Strategy-Revitalization Area The Meridian Development Corporation (MDC) is working in partnership with the City of Meridian to aggressively promote downtown revitalization. We've hired a team of downtown specialists, The Hudson Company, to work with us on the next phase of this endeavor. We have asked The Hudson Company to focus on business development opportunities and the potential future roles of downtown in addressing local and regional markets. The Hudson Company will be in town during the week of OCtober 6-10 and would like to address the Mayor and Council at the Pre-Council meeting to be held on October 7. The purpose ofthe meeting will be to allow the consultant, Tom Hudson, to gain input from City Council about the key opportunities and constraints related to market viability in the downtown/urban renewal area. We will use your input to help guide the process and identify major issues that need to be addressed by the study. We will also brief you on the process and products of the study, as well as some of the major themes emerging from interviews with local businesses and property owners. To guide this effort, we request that you come to the Pre-Council meeting on October 7 prepared to share your insights on issues, opportunities, and concems related to revitalization of the urban renewal area. Attached for your reference are summaries of the scope of work and consultant deliverables for the project. Thank you.
