November 16, 2009 CITY CLERKS OFFICE TO: Terri Ricks, Addressing Coordinator, Meridian Development Services FROM: Joseph Silva, Deputy Chief, Fire Prevention SUBJECT: Washington Street Addressing lssues As upgrades have been completed to our Ada County Dispatch software a problem has been identified with addresses in the 1100 block of W. Washington St., 1100 block W. Washington Pl. and 1100 block W. Washington Dr. The problem occurs when the dispatcher is provided with multiple choices to verify the location of an emergency in the 1100 block of W. Washington. Because the 1100 block is a valid location on three different portions of W. Washington Street, Place and Drive a wrong location can be entered into the Dispatch Computer. The underlying problem is that the 1100 block of W. Washington Dr and W. Washington Pl are out of sequence with the addressing grid for that location and are actually streets that run North and South. We have had 7 calls for service on W. Washington Place, Street and Drive, in at least two instances the emergency crews were sent to W. Washington Place instead of W. Washington Dr. The concern that the Meridian Fire Department is that this problem with the address grid may cause our crews to go to the wrong portion of Washington with multiple vehicles that may then have to be redirected to the correct location. We met with the residents of the neighborhood on October 28 to respond to questions that the residents had. The Meridian Fire Department supports Ada County Street Name Committee recommendation to change Washington Place to N. West 14th Place and to change Washington Drive to N. West 9`h Ave. This proposed solution would only affect a total of 9 households to correct this longstanding problem. Meridian Fire Department . 33 E.
