Hello Machelle,
Can you please get this email to the Commission for tomorrow's meeting? I thought 1 had sent the email to you
when I received it, but I do not think I did. Sorry for the delay.
Thank you,
Kristy

Kristy,
I read thru the draft code. I think it is streamlined and well thought out. My only comment is this: I
thought projecting signs might be allowed in other commercial/restaurant/retail zones than in the past.
After talking with you and Bill (I think that was his name) about Mercato at BridgeTower. The trend
towards retail/restaurant areas that people can walk to in neighborhoods is growing and I think we can
agree that projecting signs can enhance the look and visibility of shops in these walking retail areas.
Projecting signs are not going to work as well as a wall sign in most shopping centers, but where
applicable, business owners shouldn't have to get a variance in order to have one in lieu of a wall sign.
Great job top all who worked on this!

Subject: Draft sign code for Meridian
The draft sign code amendment is available on our website for review at www.meridiancity.org. Once you are on
the City's website choose the Planning Department and current planning.
Here are a few highlights of what has changed:
1. The structure of the sign code had been changed to simplify interpretation and readability;
2. EMCs have been added for all allowed non-residential uses in all zones;
3. A few new sign types have been added (e.g., portable in the downtown area);
4. The tables have been removed and all information is within the text;
5. Temporary signs are now called limited duration signs; and
6. The interchange section and I-84 section have been condensed and are no longer overlay sections.
Please pass this email and information on to your colleagues. Once you have reviewed the draft code and you
have any questions, please fell free to contact me at 884-5533 or kvigil@meridiancity.org.
Thank you,
Kristy Vigil
