Dear Jack,,
Concerning your request for information on.utilizing
the National Guard for a community project I have enclosed
some sample requests we acquired from the Guard. Include
in your letter the following five items:
1. Description of Project
2. Equipment Needed
3. Explain that, funds for project are not available
4. Explain that manpower and equipment are not
available for project
5. Request assistance from Guard
They helped us on a park project in the late '70's
and all it cost us was their fuel.
The addresses seem to still be valid and you .may have
a Guard unit stationed closer to you, but for the type of work
you-are pursuing, the following unit does this type of work:

please call me any time.

Commander,
CITY OF PAYETTE

The Payette Police~Department in cooperation with the
Payette County Sheriff's Office and the Fruitland Police
Department are in the process of upgrading our firing
range. Our present facility is located approximately two
miles east of Payette near a landfill. It now consists
o~f no more than a hole excavated into a side of a hill.
In speaking with SFC Dickenson of the 129th Engr. Co. in
Payette, it is my understanding that the National Guard
may be of assistance to us in the matter of upgrading
the range. tde have obtained through the Union~Pacific
Railroad at least one and possibly two box cars far use
at she facility. The car or cars will be delivered to
the Pa,yettr~ railroad yard in the near future. What we
would like, if possible, assistance in moving the cars
from the Railroad site to the firing range. We are at this
time without funds to accomplish this by contracting a
private contractor.
In speakinq with SFC Dickenson we have discovered the
National Guard in Payette, Idaho is in need for a proper
shooting facility themselves. We believe that through a
joint effort, both needs can be accomplished. Our current
facility is located on fourty acres of City owned property
and the existing cut is approximately fifty feet in width
