Most nre very shallow and have dirt just below the surface. The sand trap in front of #7 green has not had sand in it from the beginning. It is nothing but weeds, cat tails and when it rains -- water...It is marked "Ground Under Repair" (GUR). How long does it take to install a proper sand trap? All sand traps need to edged out (cut around the edges) so as to look like real traps. The trap on #9 is a sorry excuse for n trap. The traps are never raked in the morning as a "routine" maintenance item. 2) All Tee Blocks need to be leveled and maintained. The women's blocks are probably in the worst shape. There are no sand and seed boxes or plastic containers with sand and seed in them for the golfers to 'repair' divots when they are made. The Tee Markers are not moved frequently. When they nre not moved in a timely manner, the tee blocks get chewed up with divots. Some Tee Blocks are not watered adequately (some appear to not be watered at all), leaving the grass dry, brown, dead and the the ground so hard you can't set your Tee. The 'replacement' Tee Block on #8 has not been finished. The original Tee Block was removed last year and another one built (but not finished). The sod which was removed from the original Tee Block was never used, but left to die. 3) A number of cart paths need to be completed, even if they are gravel. Cart paths are needed approaching and leaving the the Tee Block as well as the Green. By not having a designated cart path to travel on, the carts wear out and destroy the grass; having designated paths will help remedy this, by keeping carts away from the Greens. ' Some cart paths need to be roped off to guide the golfer in the right direction. 4) The pruning of trees, especially around the base is needed on some trees. 5) The sprinkler system on the old nine as well as the new nine is not covering adequately. There should never be dry spots in the middle of the fairway. Along with being 'level', the Tee Blocks should have green grass and be soft enough to set your Tee. 6) Fertilizing: Water and fertilizer make things grow. This is lacking. There should be a time table for doing this, such ns spring, summer and fall. A fertilization program should be implemented on the course just as homeowners do to their yards. 7) Mowing: The equipment used for mowing the fairways is inadequate. I believe they are using a 'gong mower' that is pulled by n tractor. It does not cut the grass evenly or ndquately. An investment in newer equipment is needed to maintain the fairways and the course in general. f2 8/10/01 1:08 PM 'a Tile:/// Vnti tied The bottom line, as I see it, is that this course has been in operation for 24 some years and there is 'no' preventative maintenance program and 'no' maintenance improvements made on a yearly basis. As we discussed on the telephone, at a cost of $I.00 per year; or $6,000.00 per year, the Cherry Lane should maintain the Cherry Lane Golf Course at a much higher standard that it is at the present time. I would suggest that "You" and the "City Council" go to Cherry Lane some day, have lunch, make a complete tour of the Course and the Club House (interior and exterior) and see for yourself. The Club House is a beautiful new facility, with no landscaping around it, except for partially dead flowers, and weeds, as there is no water reaching them and evidently no maintenance being done. A number of people, myself included, feel the course is in the worst shape it has ever been. After touring it, You and the City Council would know why the majority of this neighborhood has golf memberships at other courses in the Valley. The CITY OF MERIDIAN should be proud of this Golf Course and see it as a Show Case. I hope the members of the Council will take a more active role and see that this happens. ' tz 8/10/01 1:08 PM
