I'm sure you will agree that a nine-hole golf course, much less the eventual eighteen-hole course, cannot be maintained on this type of voluntary basis with a citizen spending money for certain capital improvements. There is little question in my mind that both the city and Leavitt NuPacific must take a hard look at both the manage- ment and maintenance of the course and if necessary make the changes that are evident in order to assure constant and proper maintenance. I will be back in Boise sometime next month and will look forward to meeting with you regarding this matter. Sincerely, a d H~Leavitt DHL/kdp Encl. J.ur~ust 1l~, 1979 N.r. Box 18117 Bellevue, ~~ashington 98009 Re; Cherry Lane Golf Course Dear Den: RFc~~~ qU~l ~ EO ~9~ <Fq ~~~ 9 You asked what I was doing en the golf course. ks you kno~~r, Bob Baldock could not ccme to I~:eridian for a month or more due to his illness. I felt that this much time would be too late as the golf course needed immediate attention. The weather temperature was 90° and higher everyday and the grass required constant watering. The course had many dry spots. I made an attempt to cover them all except those en the perimeters. First, I had the lake completely filled. Th=s eliminated part of the pump problems (plugging up) as this made the lake overfloz; constantly and it sort of recycled itself, putting the algae and debri farther away from the inlet to the pumps. This Gave us a better tirorking system as we didn~t have tc clear it four or five times a day--just about three times a week. The neat step was to try and water all of the dry spots. I asked Rich Starn~ood for money to buy some quick couplers and he said he didn~t have any. I then called Gene ti~iright of JUB Engineers and he said he couldn~t authorize any more sprinkler heads. I took it upon myself to get the job done. I spent :~601.I,5 for heads, quick couplers, sprinklers, and ether parts, to install same. I felt tirhat these kids needed was a little bit of encouragement as they had ccme a long ways toward ^etting the system in working order. They mere just about over the hill and I just helped them get over the top. '~<<e replaced approximately 300' to 500 cf 1~" pipe in the two weeks. 1-.e had a crisis every day, such as, a builder getting his lumber or house s,*et from the sprinklers, pipe breaking, or the pump not functioning properly. I feel this is mostly behind us now. Saturday morning I ttialked the course to see hew thins i~;ere coming. I iti~as disappointed. It actually looked better a week ago. You can't expect this zolf course to care for itself and be gone playing golf in tournaments (both the pro any ~reens keeper). Kent Earney also noticed the bons had let dotin after I quit workinE with them everyday. He said the course had slipped back a little froT what it was. Parse 2. continued C~ I!u ust ll~, 1979 Tuesday we finally hit every dry spot on the course as it rained an inch-plus Sunday night and 1~icnday: JF/ljf Sincerely, ~1V " Jd,r~i Miller 1635 V.
