The annual compensation of the members of the city council shall be as follows: 1. Each member of the city council shall receive an annual salary of eight thousand dollars ($8,000.00), effective on and after January 1, 2006. 2. Each member of the city council shall receive an annual salary of nine thousand dollars ($9,000.00), effective on and after January 1, 2007. 3. Salary will be paid in equal monthly amounts. B. The city council shall receive the same employee benefits as all full time city employees, except for the accrual of vacation or sick leave, and any other benefits as directed by the city council. C. A committee comprised of no less than seven (7) various citizens, business leaders, and former elected officials of the city of Meridian shall be formed prior to the budget workshop during every year of a mayoral election to make recommendations for adjustments, increases, or decreases to compensation for the mayor and city council. The membership of the committee may be determined by the city council with input from the mayor. The city council is not bound to follow the recommendations from the committee, but may use any feedback or recommendation as guidance for setting the budget for compensation.
