Broadway, Ste. 210 Meridian, ID 83642 Dear Commissioners: I am writing in hopes that you will vote to rezone the properly of Premier Aquatics Center so this valuable business may move forward with its operation. I have been involved with Shannon Hamrick and F1owAquatics since its beginning. I have watched Shannon's gentle ways introduce water safety and swimming instruction to not only my child but many others. F1owAquatics is a valuable asset to the community of Meridian. Teaching children how to swim is a life saving lesson. My brother drowned in our pool when I was a child growing up in San Diego. I know the value of swim lessons. For this reason, I sought out a facility for my one year old to gain water safety knowledge. Living in Boise at the time, I checked out many facilities before finding F1owAquatics. The half hour drive during rush hour traffic did not detour me from making it out to Meridian every week because Shannon was worth it. The children all had fun, never being pushed beyond what they could handle and, at the same time, they learned. I've watched FlowAquatics grow over the years and have referred several people myself. I am happy to see more people take advantage of this facility and know it is a dream of Shannon's to be able to offer the community of Meridian the Premier Aquatics Center. Think of how many lives can be saved by allowing the opening of this facility. Sincerely, -~;Y:'« _.<`~,a ,. ': {d .:~~ ~~i3~.:.:.:..' Re: Support of In-Door Aquatics Center in Meridian Idaho To whom it may concern: I am writing to express my gratitude towards Coach Shannon Hamrick and the Flow Aquatics Program and my support for the building of a new facility that would not only benefit the community but countless individuals. Our family experience is one example of how the "learning to swim" program with FLOW Aquatics has benefited lives. My daughters had a serious fear of water and we faced the possibility of a life threatening situation when they were accidentally pulled into a pool at a friend's house. Knowing their great fear, but also knowing that learning water safety and how to swim. was a life skill that my children must learn, I searched' for a program that would work with my children at their level. I found FLOW Aquatics. FLOW Aquatics gave them the safety skills and beginning swimming skills in a fun and non -threatening environment. Their fears are gone and have been replaced. with confidence in the water, and an understanding of water safety. The new facility will make it much easier to accommodate more students, with more classes available at more convenient times. I am excited about the features of the new facility and the programs FLOW Aquatics provide. Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts with you. As a parent and former lifeguard, I find it critical that children learn to swim in a safe environment with all the possible tools for safety and success. Flow Aquatics will give children that opportunity and a choice in this Valley that is seriously lacking. For someone looking for year round swim lesson options in the Valley there are limited choices and another option in a consistent location will allow more families the ability to have safe outdoor fun in the valley. My experience with another year round swim facility was highly scary to me and FLOW has allowed me to feel confident my children are safe and eared for during swim lessons. At another local facility that offers year round swim lessons I had the experience of an instructor have my child, who was 3 and could not swim, stand on the steps and blow bubbles while she consulted with another instructor. This young, mostly untrained instructor left 6 children in water to their chins to check on something. My children have. both. been at.FLOW for ~ years and we have. never experienced an instructor leaving a child, FLOW allows mean option and safe place for my children, and having their facility closer to our home makes it that much easier. Facilities like FLOW are best served close to their customers, and a facility in Meridian, where there isn't a comparable facility year round is a great asset for both the city and those that need a good swim option for their families. -; Sincerely ,, ~;,,;. ., ~..f~..-, ~,~+f.. r bA i:~~;. Broadway Meridian, ID 83642 Dear Sir or Madam: I would like to offer my highest endorsement fox the proposal to develop and construct a new Premier Aquatics Center in Meridian. 'T'his type of development would greatly enhance the local economics within not only Meridian, but the Treasure Valley as a whole. It would also provide an accessible, worthwhile, community based aquatic fitness center that serves to improve local swimmers and those who desire to be swimmers. As a long term customer of FLOW/ Aquatics, both my son and I have learned how to greatly improve our swimming techniques. My son took one-on-one instruction with Shannon Hamrick several years ago and directly employed his skills in the local swimming leagues and competitions. Much of the confidence and enthusiasm he now displays in' the water is a direct result of the coaching and swirnm~Ig lessons he received at FZOW/Aquatics. I am presently one of Shannon Hamrick's clients. Shannon has completely revolutionized my swimming technique as I prepare to compete ~in the upcoming. Boise Ii-onMan (70.3), to lie held in June of 2009. She has instructed and coached not only myself but well over a dozen of my training partners and friends in the Boise area. Everyone that I know who has gone thru one her clinics, workshops, or on-going coaching sessions has nothing but praise for the techniques that she teaches. Although Shannon runs an existing facility in Meridian, her customer base certainly warrants the proposed improvements and expansion of an Aquatics Center. Shannon Hamrick is a master at teaching everyone the fundamental skills of becoming one with the water. An upgraded Aquatics Center will greatly increase her ability to reach more and more of our community in a very positive and healthy way. The diversified customer base that she reaches includes the young, the old, athletes, and those who require rehabilitation in the medium of water. Your quick and decisive efforts in approving this proposal will greatly enhance a solid business that is nothing short of a positive experience for all. Broadway Meridian, Idaho 83642 Dear Zoning Board: We are writing to express our view regarding the matter of allowing Flow Aquatics to occupy their desired location in Meridian with a new aquatic center for families. We respectfully request that you grant the zoning change that would allow the center to be built in Meridian. Our family has been participating in Flow Aquatics swim classes for the past several years. We have been so committed to Shannon and her program that .we've followed.the classes all over Boise and Meridian as the pool venue had to change for one real estate reason or another. The thought of having the center in a constant location with state of the art facilities is very appealing. Allowing the center in Meridian would represent the latest example of the city's extension of its progressive plan of gentrification. Further, it would represent support of a public safety initiative. The children in Shannon's classes start as apprehensive, fearful, and in some cases feel panic at the thought of being in the water. After time in her class they are going off the diving board into fifteen feet of water. The peace of mind this gives to parents is priceless. My children have really enjoyed their time working with Coach Shannon and love swimming because of how she is able to gain their trust and help them face their fears of water. We've been customers of Flow Aquatics for 3 .years now and its been very enjoyable. Please allow the zoning of her new facility to be changed from residential to commercial-neighborhood. Her old facility is great, but I know she can really do more with a bigger facility. Her plans are very environmentally friendly, as well as healthy for all the children of the Meridian area. I personally have taken several classes from Flow Aquatics. A few at the Endless pool in Meridian, a few at the YMCA in Boise and also at the diving pool in Boise near Orchard. I have encouraged a number of other people who were interested in improving their swimming techniques to also take lessons from Flow Aquatics. My experiences with this wonderful team of instructors, and mainly Shannon Hamrick were that the facility in Meridian was very clean, parking regulations were listed with signs and people who came to the facility were eager to obey the regulations. I have noted that the clientele attracted to this type of business are family oriented and health conscious people eager to learn to swim or advance their techniques for leisure or for sports. They do not seem to be a rowdy, unruly bunch of people who would bring the need for increased patrols by law enforcement or cause decline in value to neighborhood establishments. I would highly encourage you to consider favorably the request for this new rezoning off of Pine and Linder. I know if it were built, my family and friends would love to use it. Sincerely, Kay L. Broadway, Suite 210 Meridian, ID 83642 Dear Planning and Zoning: I wanted to take this opportunity to write a letter of support on behalf of FLOW Aquatics. It is my understanding they are looking to build a state of the art facility in Meridian. My children have taken lessons from Shannon in the past and for my daughter it changed her perspective on competition. My daughter is not a competitive person, yet with swimming she wasn't competing against others, she was competing against herself to obtain record time on the swim team. On Saturdays, Shannon would sometimes allow my daughter to assist her in the pool, bringing up her self confidence. For my son, he is all boy. He doesn't listen very well and yet, with Shannon, he was. attentive and alert, hindering on her every word. We spend our summers camping. and it. is comforting to know that my children are at one with the water and are safer near it. We haven't been to see Shannon in years due to busy schedules; however, I guarantee you, if Shannon has a larger facility that will accommodate more class schedules and additional staff members, we will begin lessons with her again. I would also like to point one thing out that has always bothered me about Meridian. There aren't any available swim lessons other than at the Meridian Pool in the summer. Even then, you have to sign up months in advance, be available during the day (which I am not due to work) and it is only during the summer months. The closest available swim lessons are at the West Boise YMCA, still a fair drive for our family to commute every day for lessons. Shannon's larger facility would provide a great service to the Meridian community. It would be not only welcomed, but very much appreciated. I appreciate your consideration and wish Shannon and FLOW Aquatics the best of luck in this future venture. Sincerely, ,~~~ ~~ Anne M. So we looked around and found information on the YMCA, but wanted a more personal experience, nothing so overwhelming. We found Flow Aquatics in Meridian. We started coming each week with a class size limited to four. fur daughter, Jordan, was shy, and wouldn't make too much sound at first. It was a smog building, in a small room, which put her dose to Miss Shannon and the other three students. Slowly, over the next few months, we started to see a new little personality emerge. Each week, Jordan built on the previous .skips. and became more confident. A lttle more verbal acid a little more daring: She would come home and practice her heart out in the bathtub. She had a hard time blowing out through her nose, and she became very determined to master the skill, so she would be the first to do it. Ner confidence has grown so muds over the Last two years; I now joke that maybe it wasn't so bad to have her shy. We have made the trips from the facility site in Meridian, to a hotel where lessons were held, and now to a site in Boise. It is not always easy, and we are just waiting patiently for a facility to become a reality. Sometimes I barely make the lessons, leaving work in Boise, traveling to Meridian to pick her up, and then return to Boise, and at times I want to take a break. But they have rnme to mean a lot to Jordan, and she is advandng towards opportunities to compete on a team, take this further in her life. We have a one year old son who is very eager to start his lessons. He loves to watch his big sister in the pool. But at the current time, i am unable to make it far lessons for him. We are cooking forward to him taking Lessons. We are just hoping that by the time we are ready to start, it will be at a site here in our home town of Meridian. Thank you for the time and consideration for the proposal for Flow Aquatics. They have become important to our family in whole and we support them completely. I have traveled on a .number of occasions to Meridian to receive instruction from Shannon Hamrick at her current location in the basement. I have appreciated her help to me personally in improving my swimming ability. Her facility is cramped and difficult to get to by ascending a very steep flight of stairs. I have a very good friend who would like to receive help from her but he is unable to do so. He is paralyzed from the waist down and is unable to get down the stairs. I am pleased to see that Shannon wants to build an in-door Aquatics Center. Meridian will be a better place with this facility. Please consider this proposal and allow this facility to add to the infrastructure of Meridian. Sincerely, ;~ t \ ,J ~...~ .Richard H. Shannon Hamrick has a great vision for an outstanding facility that will. offer so much to families and individuals not only in Meridian but in surrounding areas. Shannon knows how to put together a top notch program, as I know from first hand experience. I've attended 2 of her workshops, 2 of her skill clinics, a handful of her transformation sessions as -well as several private lessons. In all venues, she has been an incredible coach and a skilled athlete. It would be a great asset to your community to have atop-notch swim studio run by a very talented woman. I met Shannon when I moved to Boise in 2003. She was coaching Master's swim workouts at the YMCA and I was pursuing my dream of becoming a professional triathlete. It was immediately obvious to me that she had a passion for teaching others how to swim. Her workouts were enjoyable and her positive attitude was infectious. Before long, I asked her to become my personal swim coach. I met with her once in a while at her new swim studio and got pro-bono one-on-one coaching. Thanks to Shannon's encouragement, coaching, and sacrifice, I saw tremendous gains as a swimmer, which translated to greater success as a triathlete. Furthermore, being one of her pupils, I was fortunate enough to be invited by her to work at several of her early swinnming workshops. It was rewarding to see swimmers at various skill levels improve from week to week and enjoyable to watch Shannon work with them. Over the years I have learned a few things about Shannon. She is trustworthy and makes good on her promises. She is a passionate, caring coach and person, that has given more to others than she has received. She is a dedicated wife and mother. There is no doubt in my mind that Shannon Hamrick will make a positive impact on any community she, or her business, is a part of. Our 5 year old granddaughter, Amaya, has been a student with Shannon for several years now. We have observed consistent and realistic improvement in her swimming skills and confidence over this time. Best of all, she expresses "sheer joy" when she's in the water recreationally!.!! This is directly related to the quality of techniques used and the philosophy of her program. As a retired educator, I have been very impressed and feel so fortunate that Amaya has been one of Shannon's students How exciting to have such a state of the art aquatic center right here in Meridian!! We`ve observed the number of parents from all over the valley faithfully follow Shannon from location to location to ensure that their child or children continue in her program. She would now be able to offer. programs and services to people of all ages. Please listen carefully to her proposal and join us in supporting this fantastic, aquatic facility. I truly believe that Flow Aquatics will provide a facility that is greatly needed in Meridian and the Treasure Vally area, there isn't a lot of availability of aquatic centers in the Boise area and there is a strong demand for these facility's. I am extremely excited about the fact that my children will have a "green" sw~*~+~nq environment, and they will not have to deal with chlorine. Shannon and the Flow Aquatics team are amazing, and an asset to our community. Thank you Liane Root Page 1 of 1 ,._. r„c~
