Dear Mayor and Council:
As a member and officer of the American Institute of Architect Idaho Central Section, It has been
my pleasure to have been included on the steering committee in an effort to develop the new
Design Review process which the City of Meridian has chosen to implement.
During my time on the steering committee, I had the pleasure of working with various members
of the staff, other local architects as well as developers. Throughout the process of developing the
guidelines which the staff had drafted, there were many workshops in which each element of the
new guidelines were addressed and outlined. It was the goal of the entire committee to assure that
the outcome of the guideline was just that "Guideline". We understood that good design comes in
many forms, and should not be driven by prescriptive methods which hinder the designer and
developer as well as drive the cost of development making some project unfeasible.
It is my opinion that the outcome of our efforts has been successful and the new design review
guidelines will allowed the development process in Meridian to move forward smoothly. It is
my hope that the Council will approve the new guidelines and give our community an
opportunity to develop in a manner which will improve the growth and image of our town.
