MILLS, M.1I. 337_494-7340 p.l October lz, zoos To Whom it may concern; ~, ~ . - :::. ~ M~ ~ .. ,~ .. __. Good day, 1 am Douglas B. Mills, DVM and I encl. flee sole proprietor of the Settler's Park Veterinary Hospital, It has been slated fox review at the next Meridian Planning and' Zoning meeting on October l6, 200$. It is my goal as a Veterinarian a®d Hospital Director to have a full service Animal Hospital in this area of Meridian where the needs of the community can be met. As the owner a~ Hospital Director, 1 would like to address the upcoming issue of an outdoor walking area far the clients animals while they are in my care. The mission statement of the Settler's Park Veterinary Hospital is to provide full service care for animals in need, which includes hospitalization and treatment when iuidicated. This facility will not be a place far boarding animals. Only those an a treatment regimen including animals recovering from post surgical treatments; animals ou intravenous fluid .therapy and animals receiving chemotherapy treatments will sometimes need hospitalizatianend overnight stays to monitor their progress in treatment, postsurgical monitoring and evaluation, and follow up examinations the following day. These animals, primarily dogs; will need the opporturuity to void themselves at least twice daily to help avoid the occasional accidents which do occur inside the Hospital. The difference between hospitalization and boarding is paramount Most hospitalized patients are net feeling themselves and therefore usually not making much noise such as barking and whining while in the facility. Most boarding patients have Tots of pent up energy a.~ want to run and play and sometimes bark at ether dogs while they are contained at a boarding facility, This is why there will net be any boarding. at my facility, due to the noise factor. l have proposed a small fenced outdoor walking area that my hospital staff. or myself can walk these patients .for a shah 3-S minute time outside to allow them fresh air and ability to have grass or mulch area to urinate or defecate_ At no times will any animals be outside without being leashed and accompanied by an animal caretaker. Obviously in the care of cleanliness any fecal material will be cleaned and disposed of immediately as to leave no animal waste outdoors. In addition, my hvapital staff will also perform two to tbxee tunes daily outdoor cleanings to monitor animal waste not taken care of by my clients during their office visits. 1 hope that this cavern any queseians you znay have regarding this matter, it would be in the best interest ofpatient care to a11ow such a small walking area that is discretely hidden with a privacy fence sa as not to distract from the outdoor beauty of the surroundings. Sincerely, ~ ~. Dou B. Mills, DVM
