Subject: Maverick at McMillan and Locust Grove
Dear Sonya,
Mine name is Susan Greenman and I am on the Board of Directors of the Vienna Woods
Subdivision. I am sending you this e-mail expressing my concerns regarding the proposal
to put a Maverick at the corner of Locust Grove and McMillan. I would also like to
express my concern with the hearing date being scheduled for the evening before a national
holiday making it difficult for many to attend.
I have the following concern with the proposed Maverick store:
1. McMillan and Locust Grove traffic is often backed up for a mile several times per day.
A light at this corner would alleviate this issue.
2. The speed limit on Locust Grove North of McMillan is 50 miles per hour with no turn
lanes creating a safety hazard entering the store from Locust Grove.
3. Three schools are within a mile of the store location. One is an alternative high
school and another is a grade school.
4. I work for Hewlett Packard and work with someone who lives across the street from a
Maverick in town and it has been robbed multiple times, at least once involving a weapon.
Safety and Increased crime will be an issue.
5. I don't think the owners of Maverick have a long term commitment to the look of their
stores. Nearly everyday driving Cloverdale I see Maverick employees clustered outside the
store at Ustick and Cloverdale smoking. Is what you would want in your neighborhood?
In summary, approval of the CUP to put a Maverick at Locust Grove and McMillan in my
opinion is the wrong decision. I have lived in Meridian my whole life (51 years) and have
been proud of the cautious growth and how the city government has managed the proposed
growth. Please consider my concerns.
Sincerely,
Susan Greenman
