The Issue of Sonics being built in Southern Springs
We are unable to attend the Planning & Zoning meeting regarding Sonics on March 20, and would like to
register our opinion.
For the following reasons, we are against construction of a Sonics or other fast-food restaurants in the
remaining lots in Southern Springs:
1-Traffic is already an issue along East Calderwood Drive. People park on the street beside the Spring
Creek assisted living complex as well as on the other side of the street next to the Idaho Billing Services
office. This creates a choke point. With the increase in traffic resulting from the businesses already in
the Southern Springs development and motorists using Calderwood as a detour around the Overland
and State Highway 69 intersection, a hazard has been created which negatively impacts the safety and
character of our neighborhood. Many mornings, it is difficult to back out of our driveway.
Professional (Doctor, Dentist, etc.) offices would clearly result in less tr-affic~and is more suitable for a
subdivision such as ours. A~Sonics would not compliment the deveioprnerit:
2-Noise is another issue resulting from the increase in traffic in all directions. The addition of a fast-food
establishment would exacerbate this problem. It is common knowledge that many patrons of this type
of business share their musical preferences with those of us who prefer a quieter life style. There are
also other noises associated with order taking.
3-We already smell the odors coming from JB's restaurant. One can only imagine what afast-food
restaurant would contribute. Night lighting will bean obvious nuisance to the neighbors bordering
Southern Springs.
4-Already, people throw their pop cups, wrappers and bags onto Calderwood. This would undoubtedly
multiply with a Sonics in the neighborhood.
During the City Council meetings when the Larkspur and Southern Springs developments were first
publicly discussed and debated, we were assured that only high-quality, professional businesses would
be allowed in these developments.- We would greatly~appreciate it if you would honor that
