Idaho Avenue Meridian, Idaho 83642 Re: CUP Application for Meridian Eye Care 125 West Cherry Lane Dear Commissioners, I am writing this letter on behalf of the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) who has reviewed the application for the new Meridian Eye Care building, located in the Old Town District at 125 West Cherry Lane. The HPC would like to express its concern with this application, specifically the proposed exterior elevation design. The applicant is suggesting that because this property is located on the fringe of the Old Town District, it ought to be exempt from the Downtown Design Guidelines. Our view is that a fringe property such as this is just as critical as any found deeper in the core in that it not only defines the edge of the Old Town District, it sets the tone of the District for those entering from the north. In our opinion, the proposed building design does not reflect the historic aesthetic the City is seeking in the Old Town District. As to the site development requirements, we will defer to the Planning Staff and the Planning & Zoning Commission. We appreciate this opportunity to express our reservations with this application. If you have any questions regarding this review, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone at 846-9033. Sincerer Walte mdgren, Chair Historic Preservation Commission City of Meridian
