RE: ST. LUKE'S MERIDIAN MEDICAL CENTER
PROPOSED HELIPORT
Dear Mr. Hawkins -Clark:
St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center is proposing to add a heliport and pilot office/quarters to be
located in the southeast corner of the property. This site is within the boundaries of the 9.9 acre
parcel recently purchased for future expansion of the Campus.
St. Luke's operates or is affiliated with several medical facilities in southern and central Idaho
and has recently leased a helicopter to provide essential transport services between these
facilities. Currently the helicopter is primarily located on the landing pad at the Boise hospital
site. This is not, however, a heliport and the helicopter is required to move when other
helicopters are bringing patients to this site or it is flown to a fueling location. This is very
expensive for St. Luke's and, therefore, they are looking for a permanent location for the heliport.
This location has been selected for theApproachand Takeoff Zone over Interstate 84 and not
over any residential neighborhoods. The Federal Aviation Administration requires this and St.
Luke's has made this commitment to both the Montvue neighborhood and the Meadow Lake
Village development. This location also allows for future St. Luke's development eastward from
the current loop road.
The proposed office and quarters will be manned 24 hours a day and is the manufactured
building once located on the site as temporary office. This building will now be on a permanent
foundation and exterior improvements made to resemble the St. Luke's architectural theme.
As required as part of the Conditional Use application, St. Luke's agrees to pay any additional
sewer, water, or trash fees or charges, if any, associated with this use. And the property will be
posted 1 week before the hearing - stating an Conditional Use has been applied for.
