RE: Anytime Fitness AP-07-008
In response to the Meridian City Council's decision to deny the Applicant's appeal (AP-07-008)
to revoke the limited hours of operation for the proposed Anytime Fitness of 5:00 a.m. to 11:00
p.m., Dave Evans Construction is asking for reconsideration on the proposed hours.
While we regret not gaining approval for the full 24-hour use as initially requested, we are
asking you to approve amended hours of operation of 4:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. These hours, while
not very different from what Council had approved, will provide a significant added measure of
convenience to those residents in the neighborhood working "odd" hours. It bears repeating that
the nationwide success of Anytime Fitness is based on its model of locating their facilities within
residential areas, as opposed to out on busy commercial arterials requiring vehicular access; and
thereby providing a convenient amenity to the Neighborhood. As stated before the Council by
the franchisee, Genesis Nelson, there is only a certain amount of latitude the corporate office will
allow in reducing the hours of operation to less than 24 hours. Being granted the two additional
hours will be pivotal to that approval.
In reviewing the key issues of discussion by the Council, security was one of the main concerns.
We would like to reiterate the extent and commitment to security measures (described in detail in
the package previously submitted), and further re-emphasize that since 2002 there have been
zero security incidents in over 600 locations... specifically in the 24-hour facilities, which are
predominantly located within residential areas. Last but not least, comments were made based
on the opinion that this use was not seen as appropriate in this location. Respectfully, it fits the
Anytime Fitness model embraced by cities throughout the country with great success, helping to
make Anytime Fitness one of the fastest growing fitness franchises in the nation. That would not
be possible if not embraced by its club members... the neighborhood residents.
We would greatly appreciate your reconsideration in the matter and look forward to working
with the city and the residents of the area to provide this high quality and beneficial amenity.
