Subject: Proposed 24 hour fitness center on Ustick and Meridian Road
Appeal Hearing
I was the only person who spoke against the proposed 24 hour fitness center at the initial
hearing. I believe it was an intelligent and logical determination on part of the
Commission to limit the hours of use from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
One thing at the hearing that disturbed me: The gentleman speaking in favor of the
fitness center mentioned there were similar places on Cherry and on Chinden that were
doing well, alluding to having no problems. (This is not the exact wording) He did not
know the names of the establishment he referred to.
No one on the Commission pressed these issues. No one asked him to come back with
the names of places he was using as examples of up and running businesses. However, I
was not allowed to speak again following the rules stated to me at the beginning of the
hearing. There is NO 24 hour fitness center on either of those avenues. Also, there is no
other fitness center that is open without any staff member on duty.
Thank you,
