AN ORDINANCE MAKING ,Ir:' UNLAWFUL TO PEnDT.! GOODS, WARES AND MERCHANDISE
WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN I.vITHOUT PROCURING A LICENSE
THEREFOR ~ PROVIDING A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINEJ BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL 01'" THE CITY OF MERIDIAN:
Section 1. It shall be unlawful for ~r person or persons, firm or
oorporation to peddle goods, wares and merohandise within the corporate
limits of the City of Meridian, without first app(ing for and obtaining a l~
lioense tQ do so,from the City Cler~ ApplicatiQn for peddlers lioense shall
state the kinds of goods, wares or merohandlse ,to be peddled, the manner of
distribution and shall be acoompanied b.y a tee ot ;100.00, which tee, if the license
lioense is granted shall ,entitle the person holdlng,sUOb license to peddle suoh
goods, wares and merchandise within the limits of the City of Meridian for 8
Period of one year from the time of the grAnting of such license.
Section 2. Peddling, within the meaning or tbtaterms of this ordinace ,I"
shall include selling frOm street stands or wagons a8 well as house to house .
canvassing and the selling qt gOOds or ,mercbandise by non-resldents-of--the-
ot-tyon- certain days only from temporary locations wi thin the C1t~T in suob
manner that said stocks of goods, wares or mercbandise esCa?98 taxation.
Seotton 3. Benewal of said license at tbe expiration of one year may be
made by applioation in the sa88 manaer and extension of 88id license, if granted, shi
shall be at tbe same rate fOr eaoh year that the same may be extended.
~ection 4. The City Clerk sball present such applioation to the Mayor and
Ci ty Counoil. and grsnting of the license sball be wlth.in the discretion of Sf!} c: ,~,:(1
saId ~ayor and Counoil after due investigation to determine the finanoial
responsibility of the applicant, the kinds of goods. wares and merchandise
to be JlGJidl.lUld all other factors .affecting ,the generel welfare of the people
pi the Ui ty.
3eotloD 5. This ordinence shall not apply $0 the peddling or selling
in ~ny manner of ~gricultural products b~ing 801d or distributed by tbo produoern
thereOf, nor to peddling of goods,waresand merchandIse in wholesale quantities
to the stores and regularly establisbed merohandise dealers within the City.
Section 6. Any persoD, firm or oorporation violating the prOVisions of
this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not exceeding ;;.tlOO.OO for eacb
ottense aDd In default ot payment the person oommitting tbe Ylo1ation shall
be confined In prison at .the rete of one day tor each ~.OO of sucb fine
remaining unpaid.
Passed by the City Council of the City of MeridIan and approved by
the Mayor tbls 6th day of August. 1941.
