I City Council 33 East Idaho St. Meridian, ill 83642 CITY OF MERIDIAN CITY CLERK OFFICE Subject: AZ-07-008 Zamzows New Store Dear City Council Members; Zamzows is currently in the process of annexation and rezone of 2. 79 acres of property on East Overland Road about Y4 mile east of Eagle Road. It is Zarnzows intent to construct a new store with attached leasable retail space on this property. We are hereby requesting that this property be given an East Overland Road address( es). The reasons for tbis request arc: *The property and building is directly adjacent to East Overland Road. *Street recognition in a business address is extremely important. This recognition allows the customers to easily find this location, patronize the business, and subsequently generate tax revenue. *This street recognition also will minimize congestion on Overland Road as customers will not be slowing down and changing lanes in their effort to find a little know address on Jade Avenue. *The familiarity of an East Overland Road address should make this location much easier to find by emergency services, public and government agencies, and delivery drivers. *Current technology and systems should allow for specific location and access instruct- ions for emergency services and personneL For example, the emergency services systems can be programmed to instruct the applicable personnel that the building is at the Overland address, and that vehicular access is from Jade Avenue. *Zamzows will provide and install address (and access) signage at any locations on the building and site that are determined as required by the City of Meridian to allow for quick and easy locating of and access to the building for emergency and other services. We feel that the above request is reasonable, and that the reasons justify your approval of this request. We respectfully ask for your approval of the Overland addressing of the property and building. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Regardless, it would seem to me that Council should approve the annexation request prior to an address request. It would be similar to a business locating along the Interstate and wanting their address to be I-84. It may be visible from the Interstate but can't be accessed from there. Our standard method of addressing is that you are given an address from whatever street your primary access comes from. This makes it much easier for emergency services to you find you with out special instructions that waste valuable time. Most businesses are able to bring customers to their door by the use of good signage. I would hope that we don't start letting these types of decision become political by allowing the applicant to go to the City Council if they disagree with the address we assign them.
