Greetings Mayor Simison and City Council Members,
My name is Valerie Stefan and I live at 566 S Thornwood Way, Meridian, ID 83642.
We all know the hot topic of traffic through the Woodbridge Subdivision. I wanted to share some real
world experiences that have taken place over the last month. I walk our beautiful neighborhood 1 - 2
times per day. My first walk is usually between 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM. Here are 2 experiences from
recent weeks:
Around 8AM I was standing at the crosswalk that goes across Woodbridge from the pool parking
lot to Crosstimber. I stood there waiting while 12 - 15 cars travelled from Locust Grove down
Woodbridge and not a single car stopped for me to cross. Most appeared to be going more than 25
mile per hour speed limit. This is a regular occurance and the traffic flow down Woodbridge
correlates with when the lights turn at either Locust Grove and Central or Locust Grove and
Franklin.
Another day, also around 8AM, I was at the intersection of Woodhaven and Magic View
watching the traffic turn onto Magic View from both Woodhaven and Bowstring. Approximately 12
- 15 cars were turning onto Magic View and when I looked down the street all of those cars were
1
backed up at the stop sign at Magic View and Wells to make the turn towards Eagle Road. When I
think about the homes and condos that will be added in that area, I see a line of traffic down
Magic View and potentially into Woodbridge.
Our house is at the intersection of Woodbridge and Thornwood. It is on the inter-circle and we face the
stop sign so we have a birdseye view of the traffic flow and who stops and doesn't stop at the stop sign.
My husband and I sit on our front porch and play "Stop or no Stop" and say which car we think will stop
(and I use the turn loosely) vs blowing through the stop sign. Our determination is usually based on the
speed the cars hit the bridge on Woodbridge.
Last Friday afternoon I was sitting on the porch enjoying the beautiful day. Cars were flowing by. Kids
were selling treats in the common area. I decided to conduct an experiment to see how frequently cars
pass by. Between 3:50 PM and 4:10 PM, I counted the seconds between either a car passing by down
Thornwood from Bowstring or arriving at the "stop sign" at Thornwood and Woodbridge. Duning that 20
minutes, a car went by every 1 to 8 to 10 seconds. The longest lull was 50 seconds. Granted this is not
scientific because I was counting in my head but it does show the amount of traffic passing by.
As I sit in my office now, which faces Thornwood, a car or 2 are driving by about every minute or even
less. The flow is very consistent.
I absolutely loved (so did the rest of the neighborhood) seeing the Police Officer parked at Bowstring and
Thornwood on March 26. It definitely helped slow down traffic especially since ACHD was doing work on
the roads so it kept the workers safe. It would be very beneficial if that could happen regularly throughout
the neighborhood. Even an empty police car would help if it moved around the neighborhood.
I hope the city is able to help Woodbridge with the installation of the traffic bollards at the Magic View
entrance so our home values are maintained and our community remains a great place to live.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Valerie
