Dear City Clerk, I am writing to discuss my feelings on the proposal to transfer authority for approval of restaurant drive- thru applications from the Meridian city council to planning staff. As reported by the media, city planning supervisor Bill Parsons explained that this would eliminate the need for conditional use permits, thus obviating any associated public hearings and opportunity for input from citizens of Meridian. We strongly urge the city council to deny this proposal. As you are aware, there has been recent public confusion and reaction to projects including the permitted height of new townhomes in the Sagarra subdivision and construction of an In-N-Out restaurant next to Costco. The Sagarra homes are very clearly 4 stories after they were voted by the city council to only be an access area for air conditioning units. These and similar issues can have a pronounced impact on property values and the quality of life of Meridian residents. This is no time for the city council to be disconnected from its responsibility for thoughtful consideration of such applications by handing it off to unelected staff with no opportunity for public input. Sincerely, Jennifer Nye Meridian Resident 858 W Bacall St. 1
