Franklin Rd, between S. Locust Grove Rd and Eagle Rd) to express urgent concerns regarding traffic safety and future development impacts in our area. Executive Summary — Woodbridge Traffic and Safety Concerns -Location: Woodbridge subdivision, south of E. Franklin Rd, between S. Locust Grove Rd and Eagle Rd. -Current Issue: Over 2,000 vehicles travel through our neighborhood daily — an excessive amount for a 279-home residential community. -Cause: Woodbridge is the only east–west route between Locust Grove and Eagle Rd in this corridor, making it a heavily used cut-through for nonresident traffic. -Upcoming Risk: The Latitude Forty Three subdivision, Gramercy Townhomes, and the ISU Meridian campus expansion will significantly increase traffic—potentially by 30% or more, creating serious safety risks for children, pedestrians, and families. -City’s Own Findings: Both Meridian Planning & Zoning and City Council have noted that the Magic View, Wells, and Allen St. area is “broken” from a planning standpoint. -Our Request: Please pause or condition new development approvals east of Woodbridge until a comprehensive traffic mitigation plan is developed to protect our residents and uphold the City’s commitment to “ensuring Meridian remains a safe community built around families.” Background and Details Woodbridge currently experiences over 2,000 vehicles per day, according to the most recent traffic study. Our neighborhood has only one stop sign and no traffic-calming features, as speed cushions were the only option previously offered by ACHD and were not approved by residents. This level of daily traffic is incompatible with a residential neighborhood designed for families and children. It poses ongoing risks to pedestrians, cyclists, and those using our community’s many common spaces. Further development will worsen this situation. The ISU medical campus at Locust Grove Rd and E. Central Dr, the Gramercy Townhomes, and the proposed Latitude Forty Three subdivision will create direct east–west traffic between commercial and institutional areas — with Woodbridge as the most convenient route. Conservatively, this could raise daily traffic volume to 2,600–2,800 vehicles, with no planned mitigation or alternate routing. Woodbridge is unique: it is the only subdivision between Locust Grove and Eagle Rd that allows a nearly straight east–west passage. Other neighborhoods to the north and south are enclosed by residential developments, shielding them from cut-through traffic. Our neighborhood, however, sits directly between current and planned commercial zones on both sides — creating an unfair and unsafe traffic burden. Request for City Council Consideration 2 We respectfully ask that the City Council: -Require a traffic mitigation plan before approving additional development east of Woodbridge. -Reassess traffic control options within the subdivision in partnership with ACHD. -Prioritize safety improvements consistent with the City’s mission to support family-oriented neighborhoods. Thank you for your time and consideration. We deeply appreciate the City’s efforts to guide responsible growth and ensure neighborhood safety.
