The Ada County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) is applying for a Conditional Use Permit for the facility
located at 3568 E. Lanark Street in Meridian, Idaho. The proposed use of this space is to
establish the Ada County Sheriff's Training Center (ACSTC).
The Training Center will serve as a centralized facility to support the ongoing training needs of
ACSO personnel. The building will include multiple administrative offices, two classrooms, a
gym, a mat room, a quartermaster storage area, an armory, and an open warehouse space to be
used for a variety of training scenarios.
ACSO conducts three (3) law enforcement academies per calendar year, with each academy
accommodating up to 20 recruits. In addition to the academy, the facility will host monthly in-
service training for three separate bureaus within the Sheriff's Office. From time to time, the
center may also host outside training vendors providing instruction in a variety of law
enforcement disciplines.
Training activities at the center will cover a range of law enforcement skills and scenarios,
including:
• Classroom instruction
• Defensive tactics in the mat room
• Physical fitness training in the gym
• Scenario-based training (both daytime and nighttime)
• Simulated traffic stops
• Building search and active shooter response using a modular wall system
Staffing and Operations:
On a typical day, the facility will be staffed by up to five (5) professional staff members, seven
(7) commissioned deputies, and up to twenty (20) academy recruits.
During in-service training events, the facility may accommodate an additional 40-50 personnel.
However, due to limitations in space and instructor availability, academy classes and in-service
training sessions are typically scheduled on separate days and do not occur simultaneously.
This facility is essential for maintaining the readiness, safety, and professional development of
Ada County Sheriff's Office personnel, and will serve as a dedicated space for high-quality,
consistent training.
