HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-08-08 Betty and Wally Wendell To: Meridian City Council From: Betty and Wally Wendell, Touchmark residents Re: Touchmark Application (H-2025-0012) We are asking for your assistance in the following matter. In July 2025,the Meridian Planning and Zoning board reviewed and approved a Site Development Plan for the surrounding vacant area contiguous to the existing Touchmark Retirement Facility. In addition, the Planning and Zoning Department was presented with and approved a 40 page document and map indicating the desired changes Touchmark plans to make for it's undeveloped areas. Although Touchmark held a resident meeting in July 2025 for the purpose of explaining these plans, the documents presented at the Meridian Planning and Zoning meeting were far more developed than those presented to us. They bore little resemblance to the unformed half hour power point with vague references which we watched. The development of this property as presented will effect the existing community in many ways. It appears that the impact on existing Touchmark residents has not been carefully considered. We realize that Touchmark is privately owned, and thus can make changes to the site that will enhance their profit margin, however we were assured that before any changes took place the residents would be involved. This is not the case. This current document will change the entire concept of the retirement community. It will eliminate or modify many features that make the Touchmark community a unique place to live. Residents are extremely upset. Most chose to move here because of the campus like setting and the amenities which are offered. We would like to give suggestions to Touchmark on ways their goal can be accomplished without a destroying a community we love. We request that City Council delay a decision on the TDP until both corporate and residents can meet together, discuss and agree on a comprehensive plan that is reasonable, thoughtful and agreeable to all.
