Dear Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission, As a resident of Meridian in the nearby Bainbridge subdivision, I am writing to firmly reiterate my opposition to the proposed In-N-Out Burger location that was previously— and rightfully—denied by this commission. While we understand that In-N-Out is now attempting to override this decision by proposing limited hours and restricted delivery times, these minor concessions fail to address the most pressing and persistent concern: traffic. The proposed site is located near a high-traffic Costco, multiple restaurants, and is surrounded by rapidly expanding residential neighborhoods. The infrastructure in this area is already overburdened, and congestion continues to worsen. Anyone who regularly drives or lives near this area knows that traffic backs up at peak times, creating delays, hazards, and frustration for residents, shoppers, and commuters alike. Placing a drive-thru-heavy fast food chain in this already strained corridor will only compound these issues—regardless of whether it closes at midnight or restricts deliveries. In-N-Out is known for its popularity and the long lines it attracts, and it is unrealistic to suggest that minor operational changes will mitigate the impact on roadways, surrounding businesses, or the nearby retirement community that depends on ease of access and peace of environment. The issue was never just about hours of operation. It is about responsible city planning, traffic safety, and maintaining the quality of life for the families, seniors, and residents who call this part of Meridian home. The original denial was a reflection of valid community concerns, and those concerns have not changed. In fact, with continued residential growth, they have only become more urgent. I urge you to stand by your original decision and protect the integrity, safety, and livability of this area by rejecting this development once again. Your email has been received by the Mayor’s O?ice. Because this project is part of an open application, the Mayor and City Council members are prohibited from commenting outside of the public hearing process. That said, we take public feedback seriously and want you to know that we have received your email and have read your comments. Your email has been forwarded to our City Clerk and as they stated in another response, will be included in the project public record. As you may be aware, the City does not determine which food service or business locates at a property, the City regulates the land use of various properties while businesses decide to locate at given sites or areas based on market conditions. This project’s City Council public hearing is currently scheduled for Aug. 12. Additionally, we invite you to check the City’s website, meridiancity.org for any upcoming public hearing notices and additional information regarding the development. I have also copied the Planning Department if you have additional questions on hearings, or should that date change. Sincerely, Dave Miles | Chief of Staff City of Meridian | Mayor’s Office 33 E.
