Dear Members of the Meridian City Council, I am writing as a concerned resident to express my strong opposition to the proposed In-N-Out development at the corner of Lost Rapids and Ten Mile. While I appreciate the value of economic development, this particular location presents a number of serious concerns that I urge you to consider before moving forward. Traffic and Safety Concerns This intersection is already under significant strain due to the existing Costco development. Adding a high-traffic business like In-N-Out will only exacerbate congestion, especially given the limited access points and the proximity to residential neighborhoods. Moreover, the safety implications are alarming. Within 700 feet of the proposed site are two heavily used city parks and three school bus stops. The increased traffic poses a direct risk to children and families who use these spaces daily. Mismatch with City Vision and Planning The original vision for the Costco development was to create a balanced retail space with limited drive-thru establishments. If approved, In-N-Out would become the 11th drive-thru in that area, turning what was meant to be a diverse retail hub into a congested fast-food corridor. This is not in line with the long-term planning goals for northwest Meridian. Community Opposition and Flawed Traffic Study Community sentiment is overwhelmingly against this proposal. A survey conducted in the Bainbridge neighborhood showed 80% opposition. Better Alternatives Exist There are numerous other lots in northwest Meridian that would be far more suitable for this type of development— locations with better access and minimal impact on residential areas. Thank you for your time and consideration. I urge you to prioritize the safety, livability, and long-term vision of our community by rejecting this proposal.
