I am a resident of Meridian and am a proud homeowner. I am writing in support of funding the public
safety levy with one exception. With the influx of new residents and continuing growth in our
community, the need for safety and services that our first responders provide is critical now more than
ever. With the exhaustion of grant funding, I find it necessary to fund the retention of the 13 firefighter
positions and maintain the high standard for fast response time in emergencies. I also find it
necessary to increase Officer wages in order to recruit and retain their valuable services. These
certainly aren't fields our community wants to find in short supply as the need for their services
continues to grow. Simply said, we NEED THEM, and I am happy to put our home's tax money to
retain the quality of service we have received.
I have had the privilege to see first-hand as a former employee of the City how incredibly hard our
first responders' work. The men and women I have met truly have a heart for helping people. The
Officers, too many to name, have always been a phone call away for questions and assistance. The
SRO's that have personally helped our kiddo through school has left a lasting impression on our
family. (Thank you Kortan, Dozier and others that we have been thankful to know.) I even took a CPR
class from the Meridian Fire Department and most recently stumbled upon them providing education
and blood pressure readings at the Senior Center. They do sooooo much in our community and
provide such a variety of assistance! They are a valuable and ACTIVE part of my community. I am
happy to support a levy that supports the Meridian Fire Department and the Meridian Police
Department!
One question, I do think we need more research and information released about the prosecution unit.
Why are they now wanting Meridian to do that portion when that service has been provided by Boise
for as long as we've been here if I'm not mistaken. I would need to know more about this specific
1
issue in order to fully support the levy but I am a huge supporter for the portion going toward our first
responders.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
