Dear Dave, I do have one more question about the budget breakdown. I went back and watched the council meetings and saw comments about high level allocation of the levy, but after thinking about the numbers, I had a couple of questions for the sake of allocation and transparency . 1. I believe the numbers I heard about retaining 13 firefighters after the federal grant expires at $2.3 million means each firefighter has a compensation package of $177,000/yr? Is this accurate? Is that number consistent with current compensation packages? Your math is very close to the $180K that the City estimated will be needed to cover the costs associated with each of the 13 firefighters, including all compensation and benefit costs as outlined in the Collective Labor Agreement and City Policy. 2. The $2.1 million number for police pay works out to a raise of $14,685 per police office (149 officers) or $10,880 if you include officers and professional staff. I know not every police officer has the same compensation (nor would receive the same retention pay), but this seems to equate to an average 15% annual (compensation package) raise for most officers. Is there a place where we can see how this $2.1 million will be allocated and spent? $2.1 million covers all costs associated with not only Salary, but also benefits and compensation requirements (such as taxes and PERSI). As you stated, all sworn officers are paid at different rates and will be different per sworn officer, and the City calculated the cost increase to be at 9%. 1 Thank you, Chris On Mon, Jul 7, 2025 at 11:51 AM Chris Hyer <chrishyer31@yahoo.com> wrote: Dear Dave, Thank you for the information. The current levy breakdown for costs is roughly $2.34M for firefighter expenses, $2.17M for police salaries, and $500K for prosecution services. Council does have the ability to adjust a levy proposal prior to placing any levy on the ballot. The prosecution services proposed would bring eight prosecution staff on board. Currently, there are no prosecution staff on City staff. These services today are contracted with the City of Boise. Sincerely, Dave Miles | Chief of Staff City of Meridian | Mayor’s Office 33 E. How many prosecutors does the city currently have, and how many more prosecutors are they looking to add based on this levy? This component of the levy is very vague. Is this intentional? Can it be removed if there is not a need there? What percentage of the levy will be used for each of the three requests? Thank you, Chris 3
