So I am a retiree and I am now on a fixed income. I know how BPD union works and MPD will never ever get to make more. MPD makes a lot of money and make a really great living. Somewhere you have to draw a line, this is only my opinion. Years ago we were close to poverty level, that’s not the issue now days. I don’t believe this should come from more property taxes to retired people. As the Mayor spoke at the State of the City, Meridian has made strides to better compensate police officers, however those efforts still lag behind competitors, particularly the City of Boise. The roughly 9 percent gap in take home wages and benefits with Boise is what the levy proposal reflects to provide a more competitive wage for sworn officers. 1 Sincerely, Dave Miles | Chief of Staff City of Meridian | Mayor’s Office 33 E.
