RE: Daysprings Planned Development
H-2024-0070
Hi Brian,
th
On July 8, the Meridian City Council will consider a development that will directly impact our
neighborhood. Thank you for reading our thoughts on this proposal.
We live in the Autumn Faire/Tricia’s Crossing subdivision that surrounds seven-acre Seasons Park. Our
lot, which is directly across from the park, will be joined on both the west and south sides by the
proposed development. We have attended every meeting held by Toll Brothers/ESI in the past three years
and are invested in seeing a quality product at the end of this process.
Initially, we would like to commend the developers for listening to concerns at the neighborhood
meetings. The current proposal contains significant improvements over the previous two versions and
reflects at least some of our neighborhood concerns. This speaks well for their efforts and is
acknowledged and appreciated. We feel this will be a quality development.
th
On June 5, we and other neighbors attended the Meridian P&Z meeting with the sole purpose of
improving, not opposing, the development. The city was completely disingenuous about written
1
testimony. Concerns, questions, or requests given in writing were not addressed at the meeting. Why? In
addition, attendees were condescendingly lectured and completely discounted. Discussion on a
phantom road out to Cherry Lane was allowed to dominate a good share of the discussion when it is not
even an aspect of this development. Attending residents left feeling very negatively about the process.
Please listen to our one small but crucial concern. The access points at both north and south ends of
Tricia Way connecting the new development will take ALL increased traffic around Season’s Park. We do
not object to increased use of the park. It is well-maintained and heavily used and we have no
complaints in that regard. Our primary concern is the traffic around the park. Traffic from the new
development must wrap around three corners of the park. One of these is a blind corner that
immediately connects to a three-way intersection of Willowside, O’Connor, and Dayside. While the road
will no longer dead end at Season's Park, there will continue to be only one way in and out. The entirety
of the road around the park is currently a safety concern, for example when children dart across the
street to cars parked on both sides. The blind corner at the entry to the park is a traffic hazard. Residents
are aware and extremely cautious about these issues, but visitors to the park have not been as
careful. With increased traffic in this area, this unusual street design begs an accident unless some
safety measures are required.
We ask that the developer, who has previously agreed to consider traffic calming measures, be required
to include those at BOTH new access points that connect to existing Tricia Way. Traffic islands etc are
much more difficult to ignore than signs, which often do not prove effective.
We have not and do not now oppose this development, but for the safety of our neighborhood residents
and all who visit Seasons Park, we respectfully ask that the city council address this concern. Please
require the developer to include these two important traffic calming features.
Thanks for your time and your service to the city. Brian, we appreciate you.
