Subject: WASD Long Range Planning Committee
Laren,
Thank you for taking the time to discuss enrollment and capacity today. The more our development
community understands the West Ada process for addressing growth, the better we can work
together to build strong, sustainable cities.
As we discussed in alignment with District Policy 904, the WASD Long Range Planning Committee
convened this year to review current enrollments, school capacities, projected enrollments, and
entitled developments across the district. The City of Meridian is invited to have a staff planner sit
on the Committee in an ex-officio capacity. The Committee focused on identifying strategic
opportunities for the next two school years.
1
For the 2025–2026 school year, the Committee recommended (and the Board approved) an
enrollment cap for the Pleasant View/Hunter area. Looking ahead to 2026–2027, the Committee
plans to recommend that the Board of Trustees formally expand Hunter Elementary’s attendance
area to include this neighborhood. More information on the current enrollment cap is available
here: (https://5il.co/38qym).
The Committee will reconvene in September 2025 to consider additional changes for the 2026–
2027 school year and beyond. At that time, we will review updated enrollment and projection data.
The Committee will focus on addressing schools that are at or over capacity, particularly in Star,
North Meridian, and South Meridian by recommending attendance area adjustments where
capacity is available.
Thanks again for your interest in school planning.
Have a great day,
Miranda Carson
Director of Transportation & Planning
