Martin and Joanne,
Thank you for your comments regarding the Dayspring/Springday development application. As this is likely to be an
official application, myself and the City Council should avoid making comments outside of the public hearings. So you are
aware, as Mayor I do not vote on development applications unless there is a tie.
Additionally I have copied our City Clerk and will ask that he include your email and this response in the record for the
public hearing on this project.
Respectfully,
Mayor Robert Simison

June 25, 2022
In response to the community meeting held on Thursday, June 22, 2022, regarding the planned development of Day Spring and
Spring Day, I would like to offer the following concerns in the hope that those directly affected by the development might be
granted a hearing and appropriate studies to determine the viability of the project.
First and foremost: the concern of allowing Tricia Way to become a two-way artery leading in and out of the planned
development. Tricia Way is currently a quiet stretch of homes alongside Seasons Park. Children play freely in the park and
frequently cross this street—sometimes without thought of vehicles which, now, is not a problem as the neighbors know to
watch out for children. Our concern is that without a major arterial road in and out of the development accessing major cross
streets, that Tricia Way will become the ‘short cut’ for 682 units and most likely double that number of cars. Tricia Way is a
quiet residential street that does not lend itself to heavy traffic.
Other concerns relating to Tricia Way becoming a through street include an increased risk of improper use of the park. Other
Meridian parks have already seen an increase in juvenile mischief, not to mention drug use, which could lead to vandalism and
even serious crime.
Additionally I would like to suggest that a through street be built to accommodate through traffic similar to the Tower Bridge
Way/Bell Tower Drive in the Bridge Tower development. This set of streets allow traffic to move through the development
without homes facing this set of streets. This type of throughway seems much safer.
It seems that part of this development is very dense. At the meeting we were told that there were an average of 4 housing units
per acre, but sections look to be at a very high density. I (along with others) understand that development is part of life in
Meridian, but the project planned to take approximately 10 years assumes that water, power, and other life necessities will be
available to support 682 units/families in that 10-year span. Until the recent rains, we had been told to cut back on
2
watering. Irrigation water was turned off early last Fall and turned on late this Spring. Triple digit temperatures raise concerns
over power outages. Where are these resources coming from to support another major housing development with a 10-year
timetable?
Our hope is that the city will address these concerns and initiate studies that will lead to a long-term solution to the benefit of all
those involved. I look forward to hearing from you.
Respectfully,
Martin and Joanne Oemig
